This November, Singaporeans are invited to take part in a uniquely immersive experience that brings together history, heritage, and the spirit of national defence. 

Held in commemoration of both SG60 and SAF60, the festival’s first collective celebration, following the onboarding of the Singapore Navy Museum and the Singapore Air Force Museum into the DCS Family, has rolled out a series of activities for participants to partake in. Because there is just so much in store for you, we’ve come up with a mini-guide so that you don’t have to fret about planning.

The event runs from 10am to 6pm on 15, 16, 22, and 23 November 2025, across the Singapore Discovery Centre, Singapore Navy Museum and the Singapore Air Force Museum.

Explore the museum with Mini Troopers: Fall In! where children can get to step into the shoes of a soldier for a day at this Kids’ Uniform Rental area, only at S$10 per uniform. They can take part in defence-related activities to discover Singapore’s history.

Want to know what a day out in the field would feel like? Let’s Get Outfield! allows you to step into the boots of a soldier with hands-on fun camo face paint, and basha tent pitching. Pre-register here.

Join the First Responder activity to learn basic first aid, from treating minor cuts to handling sprains. Register for the event here.

Besides all these activities, kids can enjoy a free AR Colouring Workshop where they can colour their favourite defence vehicles on paper and watch them come to life as animated 3D creations with the use of augmented reality (AR). 

Pen Your Wishes is also a free message-writing activity to pen our gratitude to the soldiers and veterans who have proudly served our nation. There are also Carnival Booths set up for kids to score some prizes. Expect live performances on 15 November 2025 to immerse yourself in the festival.

3. Singapore Air Force Museum

At Captain Ted’s Little Pilots’ Runway, Activity Passport Holders aged four to 12 years old can take on the role of a fighter pilot with the exciting task of manoeuvring an “aircraft”, in the form of an electric kart, through a flight path filled with dangers and obstacles.

Lieutenant Eli’s Sky Search is also another activity Activity Passport Holders can look forward to, for a thrilling scavenger hunt around the Air Force Museum.

Participants without the Activity Passport can also enjoy a wide range of activities at the Singapore Air Force Museum.

Get creative at the Design-A-Badge Craft Workshop where you can unleash your creativity by designing your very own defence badge inspired by the six pillars of Total Defence. Later, head to the Flight Simulator, where you can see what it’s like to be an F-16 pilot.

Tucked in Dunlop Street, a short walk away from either Little India or Rochor MRT station, Seiwaa Okonomiyaki & Teppanyaki Restaurant boasts authentic flavours and quality food.

The aroma of teppanyaki filled our noses as we made our way into the restaurant. From the outside, it seemed like a modest Japanese spot, but who would have guessed the delicious surprises awaiting within? 

Okonomiyaki 

We were swiftly ushered towards a table with a hotplate in the center — a setting that invites you to grill-your-own Okonomiyaki, and to share some fun with your loved ones.

We chose to order the Mix Okonomiyaki (S$20), an Osaka-style savory Japanese pancake, made with a flour and egg batter, shredded cabbage, and pork, squid, and shrimp. 

Okonomiyaki literally means “grilled as you like it”, so make sure you grill it to your own level of satisfaction! If you’re the kind that will cause Gordon Ramsay’s blood pressure to skyrocket, don’t hesitate to ask for help from the friendly and helpful staff who will lovingly grill your food to perfection. 

After cooking, the Okonomiyaki is usually topped with a special savoury sauce, mayonnaise, and dried bonito flakes. 

Monjayaki

In my years of life and all that experience with Japanese food, I’ve only now known of Monjayaki, a savoury, runny, and gooey Japanese pan-fried dish that is a speciality of the Kanto region, particularly Tokyo. 

The dish is similar to Okonomiyaki, but has a much thinner, more liquid batter made from flour, water, and dashi stock mixed with cabbage, seafood and meat.

I ordered the Mix Monja (S$22), which consists of pork, squid, and shrimp. Toppings included mochi cubes and cheese.

The friendly staff helped us cook up the Monjayaki on the griddle. Once it was set, he taught us to wait for a minute before using a mini spatula to scoop up the gooey goodness. I wouldn’t say that I wasn’t shocked to hear that we could eat it in its “batter” state. 

The first bite sent me flying to Japan. It was flavourful, but not too overpowering. The mochi and cheese complimented each other in adding a nice and chewy texture.

I would definitely order this again on my next visit. And my advice? Definitely get this on your visit.

Teppanyaki

Like most of their other dishes that require a grill, Seiwaa’s teppanyaki dishes are prepared in front of you, on a sizzling iron grill by their meticulous staff. Sit back and watch your food being cooked. If you’re a duo, order the Flavour Meat Grill Plate (S$68), which consists of pork, chicken, bacon, lamb, beef and vegetables.

Couples who can’t resist seafood can get the Ocean Seafood Grill set (S$86), a set of salmon, squid, prawns, oysters, scallops, and vegetables.

If you’re just like us who want the best of both worlds, order the Mix Platter (S$76), with ingredients from both the Flavour Meat Grill Plate and Ocean Seafood Grill Set.

Get individual portions like the Chicken (S$15), Beef (S$18), or Whole Squid (S$35) if you have like-minded friends who like to try a bit of everything.

Takoyaki

Apart from being able to customise your own Okonomiyaki, you’ll also be able to cook your own takoyaki.

I’ve always wondered what it takes to flip a takoyaki over whenever I stood in front of the glass pane of a takoyaki stall. Take this as a chance to channel your inner chef, at just S$30. 

It’s a good activity to bond over since the toppings are self-added, you’ll get to know what your loved ones like eating and what they don’t — a good ice-breaker if you’re on a date!

Sides

The Aburi Mentai Salmon (S$25) is a must-try. The fish dish features lightly torched salmon topped with a rich and creamy mentaiko sauce. The generous layer of sauce melts into the fish to create a luscious, smokey, and savoury flavour in each bite. 

Get the Nagoya Chicken Wings (S$12), an extremely crispy fried chicken wings coated with a sweet and delectable sauce.

To refresh your palette after downing a heavily-grilled meal, get the Seaweed Salad (S$12), drizzled with a tangy, zesty Yuzu sauce to refresh your palette.

Dessert

End off your meal with their fluffy and light Seiwaa Signature Souffle Pancakes. We got the cheese ones at S$30 for four pieces, because let’s be real, would anything with cheese inside go wrong?

Do note that the pancakes are only available from Monday to Thursdays, and only if you’re seated on a table with a hotplate. So if you’re planning to try their pillowy, cloud-like souffles, head down on a weekday, and make sure to ask to sit by the griddle.

After a month-long refresh, this major rebrand is TBB’s first since its launch in 2012.

Following the revamp, TBB has also rolled out new bakes. Take this as a mini guide to some of their new offerings.

Singapore’s first Kouign Amann Soft-Serve

Whether you’re a regular at TBB, or have never had it before, you must have heard of their most popular bake — the Kouign Amann. 

TBB has turned indulgence up a notch again this time round with its all-new Kouign Amann Soft-Serve (S$5.50). At thirty cents less than the classic Kouign Amann (S$5.80), this crisp cameralised pastry atop velvety soft-serve offers a luxurious and best-of-both-worlds treat. 

Savoury items

Of all the times I have had TBB, I have been ordering the Ham & Cheese Croissant (S$9.50), but with their five new savoury items on the menu, I don’t think I’ll be having my regular croissant for the time being. 

Can’t get enough of the Shio Pan craze? The Prosciutto Crudo Shio Pan (S$9) is a savoury, fresh, and delicately sweet item with Parma ham, baby romaine lettuce and watercress, layered in a parmesan Shio Pan, drizzled with honey mustard mayo sauce.

If you’re visiting their flagship store, I’d recommend you get their Eng Hoon Street exclusives, like the Tuna Salad Sandwich (S$9.50), and the Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich (S$12).

There are many more new items like the Chicken Meatball Marinara Danish (S$8), Shabu beef & Kimchi Lattice (S$8), so head down to try them yourself!

Sweet items

Since we have already established that TBB’s newest Kouign Amann Soft-Serve is a must-try, let’s talk more about their newest Eng Hoon Street viennoserie.

Matcha lovers, you’re in for a treat for the Black Sesame & Matcha Danish (S$7.50) — a flaky pastry filled with matcha pastry cream and silky white chocolate. It is finished with black sesame paste and a touch of fleur de sel (hand-harvested sea salt with large crystals) for the perfect balance. 

If you’re into cute things, definitely get the Raspberry & Vanilla Cream Ribbon (S$7) — a soft ribbon-shaped pastry filled with a rich vanilla cream and raspberry jam. It is a light and fruity pastry, dusted with icing sugar.

The Mango Sticky Rice Danish (S$7.50) is a buttery pastry inspired by the classic Thai delicacy, layered with glutinous rice, coconut cream, and fresh mango. Drizzle the coconut cream to your desired amount with the little pipette provided on the pastry.

Beverages

What’s a nice chill cafe session without a nice cup of drink? TBB has an evolved beverage menu featuring Dark Cherry Matcha (S$8.50), an earthy matcha with dark cherry, harmoniously blended with milk for a softly sweet, and slightly tart finish.

I’m not a fan of cherries, so I’m looking forward to trying the Pistachio Matcha (S$8.50), and the Banana Caramel Latte (S$8.50). 

The Pistachio Matcha is a rich mix of matcha and nutty pistachio, topped with whipped cream, and a touch of salted honey butter for that sweet and savoury finish.

Meanwhile, the Banana Caramel Latte is a bold shot of espresso with banana caramel, milk, and a touch of salted honey butter. The cherry-on-top for this drink is the whipped cream and crushed peanuts for a sweet and nutty finish.

The croissant was rich and buttery, with a delicate flakiness. The crispiness surprised me as I tore the crescent-shaped pastry in half. Most croissants I’ve had tend to be stale and need reheating before their texture comes alive, but this one was different — it stayed perfectly crisp even when cold.

The Almond Cream Croissant is an almond cream flavoured with rum, dusting sugar and sliced almonds.

Savoury Bakes

Savoury bakes include the Quiche Lorraine Classique (S$12), a shortcrust pastry with bacon bits, cameralised onions, and Gruyere. The Quiche with Sautéed Shrooms (S$12) features a shortcrust pastry with portobello & swiss button, cherry tomato, thyme, oregano and gruyere.

Tarts

If you’re not into savoury treats, Bastille Bakery also has decadent pastries like the Lemon & Yuzu Confit Tart (S$13), a treat made up of lemon curd, yuzu confit, almond sponge, and homemade shortcrust. 

The Caramel Pecan Vanilla Tart (S$13) featured light and fluffy meringue, and nutty pecans that perfectly complimented the richness of the salted caramel. The tart base was firm — a refreshing change from the powdery texture of certain tarts found elsewhere. It’s one of those rare desserts where I could really taste the freshness in every bite.

While indulgent, I do think it can get a little cloying after a few bites, so definitely bring along your loved ones to share the dessert with!

For some reasons, I grew up not liking Eclairs, but the Chocolate Eclair (S$10) was a pleasant surprise, away from the Eclairs we’re typically familiar with. The choux pastry is made with 70% dark chocolate cream, chocolate glaze & zest, and Fleur de sel (hand-harvested sea salt with large crystals). 

The chocolatey cream fills up the hollow pastry dough, topped with another glossy layer of chocolate glaze. The Eclair had an overpowering salty taste. So if you’re on a diet, I suppose this might be the kind of pastry that would make you feel less guilty to take more than a bite?

I really appreciated how it was different from traditional Eclairs, though I can’t quite say it made me fonder of them.

Getting thirsty from all the talking and eating? Head to the bakery’s complimentary water dispenser to get a cup of lemon-infused water to wash it all down.

Chef-owner Jean Denis Leleu, who is the former head of pastry at Tiong Bahru Bakery, offered us his freshly baked Madeleines (S$3.50). I watched as his eyes sparkled when he came out of his busy kitchen to tell us that the spongy cake is his favourite. I nodded in agreement, for I am also one who loves a good ol’ madeleine. 

Just like the rest of Bastille Bakery’s bakes, this mildly-sweet treat tasted unmistakably fresh. The vanilla flavour was rich and aromatic. I could even see generous specks of vanilla beans in it.

The Chouquette (eight pieces for S$10) is a choux pastry with pearl sugar — an all-time kids and adults’ favourite. It’s been a long time since I had the pastry, and tasting it again brought back such joyful memories. 

It is safe to say that it’s one of the best Chouquette I’ve had. It wasn’t overly sweet, and the pastry had a slight crunch to it. 

As someone who goes weak for sourdoughs, I found it satisfying to see the mountain of mouth-watering sourdough breads and baguettes neatly tucked behind the counter. 

Because we only had the stomach to try some of their bakes, I’ve already informed my loved ones that we’ll be heading down on a Sunday morning sometime soon to try out all the other pastries. I guess I’ll see you there?

Following the incredible success of Fortuna Italian Trattoria, which proudly earned its spot as Number 28 in Asia’s Top 50 Best Pizza, Fortuna Terrazza brings the same passion for authenticity, quality, and hospitality to its Tanjong Pagar outlet.

As an avid fan of Italian food, I embarked on a journey to taste Fortuna Terrazza’s extensive menu. The sunny, alfresco charm already made the restaurant high on my list before I even entered. 

My colleague and I were warmly greeted by the staff in Italian. Honestly, we struggled to make sense of what the signore was saying but his bubbly salute was telling enough.

We were ushered to a table nearest to the entrance — no complaints because it almost felt like I was sitting under the gazebo, but in the aircon. Phew, it was a warm day.

It was difficult to choose between their menu’s offerings as a die-hard lover of Italian cuisine. We eventually settled for the Buongiorno Toast (S$26), Aglio & Olio Benedict (S$24), and Pork Cotoletta Parmigiana (S$34).

The Buongiorno Toast is a thick cut maple glazed bacon dish with folded eggs, provolone cheese, truffle mayonnaise, served on a sourdough slice.

I knew this dish would probably taste good just by its name. I was right, this dish was a hit for both my colleague and I. The consensus was the taste of the pork — it was not too salty, yet well-sweetened, and not too hard despite being so thick. Pair it with the omelette, and sourdough slice. It made me feel like I was really brought into the Amalfi Coast. 

The second dish we ordered was the Aglio & Olio Benedict, a delectable plate of Aglio Olio potato rosti, two poached eggs, wilted greens, hollandaise sauce, and chives. 

Both my colleague and I thought we were ordering a plate of pasta at the thought of Aglio Olio. We were surprised to see none of that when the dish was served, with the restaurant’s chef personally coming over to drizzle whipped hollandaise sauce atop the eggs. How aesthetic. I liked this dish a lot too for the lightness and fluffiness of the hollandaise sauce. It paired extremely well with the crisp of the rosti, hitting that sweet spot between crunch and moistness.

The last main we ordered was the Pork Cotoletta Parmigiana, constructed with Grissini crumbled pork, tomato sauce, fior di latte, arugula salad, shaved parmigiano and basil oil. I found the pork slightly too tough but if you pair it with the stretchy mozzarella, it will taste slightly like pizza.

It was a warm day, so we naturally reached for something refreshing to cool off. The In-House Fresh Lemonade (S$6) hit the spot with its bright, zesty flavour. For something richer, we tried the Nutelloso (S$14) — a decadent blend of coffee crema, milk, Nutella, and whipped cream. The Pistacchio 2.0 (S$14) was another indulgent pick, featuring coffee crema layered with milk, pistachio cream, and a crunchy crumble topping.

I came for the vibes but stayed for the food. Sadly, we were too full to continue with desserts, which is still something I think about up till today. 

I’ll definitely be back again to try other options on their menu and to have a taste of their pastries. Will I see you there?

1. National Gallery Singapore

This October, National Gallery is bringing Halloween to life with two unique programmes for all ages. 

Back-of-House Guided Tour: “Former Supreme Court: Unseen, Unheard” (Halloween Edition)

Enter the hidden chambers of Singapore’s former Supreme Court in this rare Halloween edition of the National Gallery’s Back-of-House Guided Tour. The Gallery, built in the 1930s, has been home to landmark trials for over 60 years. The building will open its doors after dark to reveal eerie anecdotes and abandoned passageways.

Visitors will retrace the steps of prisoners and judges, climb through the infamous trapdoor into the prisoner’s dock, and step into the Viewing Gallery where the public once observed trials. The tour also offers rare access to the former Chief Justice’s private lift and courtroom seat.

The evening begins with a meal at Bakery Brera, the Gallery’s newest cafe, followed by a guided experience led by our facilitator. Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their best Halloween outfits to bring the night to life.

Tours are only conducted every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from now till 2 November 2025. Ticket prices go from S$68 for general public admission, and S$57.80 for insider members.

Trick-or-Treat Family Fun

The second activity is a family programme that offers a lighter take on Halloween, blending art with play. Held in the Expression Workshop room at the Gallery’s Keppel Centre for Arts Education (KCAE), children will get to design their own “Monster-Builders” boxes before setting off on a trick-or-treat journey through hand-picked exhibition spaces. 

With a playful map in hand, kids will discover artworks and collect sweet surprises from National Gallery’s staff along the way. The trail ends with refreshments at Bakery Brera Cafe.

This activity is designed for children from three to 12 years old. Families are encouraged to attend, dressed in Halloween costumes to immerse yourself in the festive spirit.

A Bundle Parent and Child ticket goes at S$65. An additional child ticket goes at S$38, and an additional parent ticket for S$30.

2. Halloween Horror Nights 13

Halloween Horror Nights is back for the 13th consecutive year, with more terrifying scares, which include Singapore’s Most Haunted: Build to Horror, The Unruly Immortals and Death Whisperer haunted houses.

Step into the Upside Down, from the spine-chilling Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things, this year’s headlining theme. Come face-to-face with the Demogorgons, and test if you can escape their clutches.

3. Haw Ror Villa 4 — The Final Journey

This year, Haw Ror Villa is celebrating its fourth birthday with a bang. This is the last year of Haw Par Villa’s Halloween event, so you can expect not two, but three scare zones ramped up.
