In fact, from 4 May 2026 to 17 May 2026, one of our local Chinese Dance companies, the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre, is holding its 11th edition of the Chinese Dance Fiesta. This year, the festival will showcase 8 Chinese dance performances held across Singapore, as well as workshops and discussion sessions with the esteemed Professor Ma Jiaqin, China’s first-grade choreographer and founding dean of Nanjing University of the Arts’ Dance Academy.

If you’re looking for some cultural enrichment to brighten up your life, here’s what to expect. 

Chinese Dance Performances 

On 8 May 2026, catch hardworking young dancers from primary, secondary and tertiary school groups such as Ngee Ann Polytechnic, St Tanjong Katong Primary School, and Dance Ensemble Singapore, celebrate Chinese heritage with captivating performances. Don’t underestimate them because of their age; these youths are just as passionate as any adult dancers.

On 9 May 2026, local troupes and companies will be putting up a show, allowing us an opportunity to support our homegrown talents. As these artists continue to preserve Singapore’s traditions and cultures, make sure you head down to witness the rewards of their hard work!

Dance workshop and talks

Beyond the performances, the festival offers 2 introductory workshops to Kunwu Dance, a contemporary style of classical Chinese dance. 

The first is a 4-day intensive catered to experienced dancers. The second is a 2-hour beginner-friendly workshop held on 9 May 2026 that introduces attendees to the foundations of Kunwu Dance. If dance and Chinese culture are something you’ve always wanted to learn more about, this is a unique opportunity to experience them in-depth.

There’s also a 30-minute talk-demonstration, where Professor Ma shares insights into the philosophy and techniques behind Kunwu Dance. It’s perfect if you’re keen to learn more but can’t join the dance workshop.

Thus, I set out to look for a solution — I tried Beijing 101 for the first time with its newest treatment, the Tri-Action Scalp Revival, and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Previously, I doubted the efficacy of these haircare treatments; however, Beijing 101’s stellar track record since its establishment in 1974 left me feeling optimistic about my own hair health.

The process 

Before we began, I was a little nervous, not knowing what I had signed up for. However, the reassuring consultant talked me through the 3-step routine—Hydro Scalp Reset, to clear clogged follicles and restore balance in the scalp, Nutrient Booster, to improve scalp condition for fuller-looking hair, and a Follicle Awakening Spray, to stimulate circulation and reduce hair fall —so I fully understood the procedures done to my hair. 

The treatment started with the Hydro Scalp Reset. The hair specialist used a small suction device to unclog my hair follicles, getting right into the nooks and crannies with the small handheld machine and going over every inch of my hair bed. Knowing there was likely an excess of dead skin, impurities, and product on my scalp, the procedure felt very satisfying.

After the Hydro Scalp Reset cleanse, a customised mask was applied to my hair to balance my scalp condition and remove excess oil. Then, my hair was washed, and I received a customised ampoule that was applied to my scalp with the Nutrient Booster, which uses vibration to embed the nutrients deep within my scalp. 

The therapist then gave me a Beijing 101 Signature Meridian Head Massage. He informed me that the signature massage releases Qi, aka energy blockages, boosting circulation and promoting relaxation while stimulating follicles. The massage truly felt relaxing and even lulled me to sleep a couple of times.

My thoughts on the experience

When I asked the consultant about this, he said that common causes for these concerns include high stress, poor diet, harsh treatments, and even being post-partum—things the younger generation are all too familiar with. 

It made me realise that while people are willing to invest in skincare products and professional treatments, we’ve painfully neglected our scalp care, and the consequences are stark.

What is the Lyrid Meteor Shower?

The Lyrid meteor shower is an annual celestial event that takes place as Earth passes through a trail of debris left by the Comet Thatcher. It’s known to have radiant meteors and to leave occasional bright flashes called a fireball. 

How to get the best views of the Meteor Shower

For optimal viewing in Singapore, the showers are said to peak on 22 April 2026 and 23 April 2026 after 11pm. For the best chance of spotting them, stay away from city lights and other forms of light pollution, and find a dark area with a clear view of the sky. Just in case you aren’t sure, we’ve compiled a few places to watch the meteor shower.

Changi Beach Park

Located near the edge of Singapore, Changi Beach is largely unaffected by the city lights and is a prime area for stargazing. The spacious beach and empty fields make a comfortable spot to settle for the night. Along with the cool seaside breeze, it’s one of our top spots for the best viewing experience.

East Coast Park 

East Coast Park is another area commonly frequented by casual stargazers. Its more accessible location makes it a popular choice; however, there is slightly more light pollution with the LED lamps placed along every road. Labrador Nature Reserve

Labrador Nature Reserve offers lovely panoramic views of the sea and gets very dark at night, making it a suitable place to stargaze. However, it doesn’t have expansive fields and beaches like Changi Beach or East Coast Park. Rather, you may have to settle on a bench along its trail or boardwalk, or on the concrete floor of the Berlayer Shade. Whatever it is, the beautiful, tranquil views and clear view of the night sky will definitely make it worth the trouble.

Punggol 

Punggol has been a prime area for stargazing due to its low light pollution, and it even has its own astronomy club! Recommended viewing spots there include the Lorong Haulus Wetland, Sunrise Bridge in Punggol Waterway Park, and the Punggol Point Observation Deck in Punggol Point Park.

Upper Seletar Reservoir

One of the more scenic spots to go stargazing, Upper Seletar Reservoir offers a breathtaking view from a field near its lookout tower. The serene spot is located near the water’s edge, so you can gaze out into an expansive open space and sky. Toy Treatment

Looking to give your plush a relaxing spa, new outfit, or makeover? Consult a professional for a Toy Treatment (S$28) at the centre to find out how to repair your plushies. 

Alternatively, you can seek these Toy Doctors for advice on how to better care for your toys, tailored to its fabric, age, and stuffing.

Available at the centre daily, consult the Toy Doctor from anytime between 10am and 6pm. 

Plush Customisation

On the more intricate and detailed side of the Toy Doctor’s services, you can customise accessories or costumes for your plushies by contacting the centre! 

Whether you’re looking for a matching couple plushie look with your partner, or an iconic costume to dress your toy in, the Toy Doctor is here to save the day! 

Plush Rejuvenation Workshop 

Plush rejuvenation workshops (S$50) are also available at the centre. During the 1-hour-30-minute session, learn how to repair, clean, and care for your plush and give them a second chance of life. 

Participating in this workshop also means that you can bring any plush of your choice (with a polyester stuffing and maximum height of 40cm) to work on, resulting in a glowed-up companion to bring home. 

Be a Toy Doctor for a Day

Curious about what it’s like to be a toy doctor? Join the centre and become a Toy Doctor for a day (S$35). 

Receive a tour of the back of house treatment room, master simple sewing skills to restore plushies, and be certified as a Junior Toy Doctor at the end of the day!

Build Your Own Plush

Alternatively, build your own plush (S$35) by stuffing, hand-sewing, and personalising your new fluffy companion. True to the name of building your own plush, sew a unique heart onto your new friend, and receive a birth certificate to mark bringing it to life. 

Not only is this a safe sanctuary for plushies hanging by a thread, but a new type of date idea, and pit stop you have to make the next time you explore Exploria!

What is VE/LA ?

VE/LA (เวลา) means time in Thai. In this instance of this speciality coffee and matcha house, its signature range draws inspiration from different moments of the day, accompanied by a colour gradient. 

The first 24-hour VE/LA outlet

Speaking of time, the upcoming VE/LA in Changi Airport will be the brand’s first 24-hour café, fitting of its location.

Positioned at the intersection between Terminal 1 and Jewel, the space allows both travelers and local visitors to access the café without the need for departure.

Menu

The Singapore menu will follow a streamlined selection of items featured in VE/LA’s London branch, comprising signature speciality coffee, matcha, and craft tea. From our research, signatures we can most likely expect in Singapore include the VE/LA Airecano, Cloudy Matcha, and Kaimook Latte.

Alongside these staples, the Singapore branch will also introduce a Singapore-exclusive tea—the Kaya Toast Latte. Inspired by Singapore’s beloved classic breakfast, the drink mixes familiar local flavours with VE/LA’s aesthetic gradients. 

Of course, with every good cup of coffee comes a light bite. While the official line-up of bites has not been announced, items available in most VE/LA branches consist of: Cookie Bites, Mille Crepe Boxes, Cake Boxes, and an iconic Banana Bread. 

With coffee sourced locally in Thailand and farms around the world, Thai-grown teas harvested from acclaimed organic tea farmers in Northern Thailand, and exclusively crafted matcha from Mie, Japan—a new kind of roast is set to make waves in Singapore in the months to come.

At the newest branch of MODU High, the restaurant brings its comforting signature broth comprising ginseng, jujube, garlic, and more to the hustling CBD. 

Appetisers and Shareables

Starting with appetisers, we were greeted with three dishes: steamed eggplant in soy sauce, ginger and ginseng in honey, and fresh tomatoes in chilli oil. While the combination might sound unfamiliar, don’t be afraid to dig in and experience a different (and acquired) side of Korean cuisine!

We also tried the restaurant’s Mung Bean Pancake (S$16), which is made by grinding soaked mung beans, adding vegetables and meat and pan-frying it into a round, flat shape. We 100% recommend dipping the pancake in the sauce, as we did find the pancake a little plain for our liking. 

Samgyetang

While MODU High’s samgyetang menu boasts twelve signature variations, we tried the classic Yang Vitality (S$52) samgyetang and a new item, Truffle (S$48) samgyetang.

Each samgyetang comes in a set comprising radish kimchi, in-house red dipping sauce, salt and pepper, minari salad, and glutinous rice. The best part of it all? These side dishes and condiments are all refillable! Adding on to the authentic experience of indulging in samgyetang, a small cup of soju will also be given to mix with this herbal broth. 

Opening the tender steamed chicken submerged in rich broth, we loved how easy it was to peel tender meat off the bone. Not to mention our pleasant surprise to see a scoop of shiny glutinous rice in the chicken, as we thought our side plate of glutinous rice would be all.

Dubbed the “super‑food” bowl, the Yang Vitality samgyetang pairs the classic broth with Yagwanmun—a rare Korean herb celebrated for liver support—and an extra dose of ginseng. As for the Truffle, you’ll have black truffle grinded in front of you, adding a more performative experience to your meal. Once mixed in the soup, the truffle remains an underlying flavour, allowing MODU High’s 12-hour broth to still shine. 

Dessert

At the end of our meal, the delicate dessert of cinnamon yakgwa (Korean honey cookie) and jujube tea (S$20) was served. 

If we were to compare it to a relatable dish, the yakgwa tasted like churros! Sweet and punchy, it felt like we were eating churros in a pretty biscuit form. As for the jujube tea, we imagined this to be compatible with heavy lovers of herbal ingredients, as we did find it a little bitter—much like any other herbal ingredient.

To celebrate its grand opening, MODU High has teamed up with the neighboring dessert boutique Tofu G Amoy. Every dine‑in guest will receive a complimentary Tofu G gelato voucher, redeemable for any of the shop’s plant‑based flavors while stocks last.
