So we’re steering you towards the sweet spot—four-star hotels that hit the perfect balance of comfort, style, and value. 

Beyond the usual big-name chains like JW Marriott, Ibis, and Lotte, there are some seriously cool boutique hotels that you may not have heard of.

Our top pick is The Myst Dong Khoi, which lies right in the heart of District 1, along the iconic Dong Khoi Street. The nightly rates start from S$186 to S$200, depending on the room type of your choice. 

And if you happen to be a theatre kid, then good news! You’re literally a few minutes away from the stunningly beautiful Saigon Opera House and the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral.

2. Airbnb

Maybe chic, comfort and convenience might not be your cup of tea, and you prefer an accommodation that has a local touch instead. If that’s the case, then you should give the Airbnb scene a chance! 

With HCMC’s maze-like streets and extremely dense layout, Airbnbs sometimes just make more sense than hotels. But there are tons of TikToks where travellers show the shocking disparity between the dodgy, scary exterior and the surprisingly stylish interiors. 

We stayed at La Sol Home, a cosy little Airbnb tucked right in District 1. We were also just a two-minute stroll away from the buzzing nightlife of Bùi Viện Walking Street, which was a huge perk since we didn’t have to fork out additional money for transportation. 

For the price, which is less than S$50 per night, it’s honestly a steal! 

The TikTok prophecy came true for us, too — the only way to get to the Airbnb was through a narrow alley that cuts right through a local food stall. 

Inside, it’s super homey and comfortable — think a queen-sized bed, a pull-out sofa bed, and even a projector so you can binge Netflix or YouTube after a long day of sightseeing. Perfect for a party of two travellers. 

With all things considered, the Airbnb spot we found was a genuine good find too!

3. Homestays 

The last accommodation type left on the list works best for solo travellers who crave a truly local experience that you just can’t get from hotels or Airbnb stays.

We’re talking about homestays, where you share a home with your host and their family. It’s the kind of travel experience that lets you see the city through a local’s eyes! 

One that’s been making waves is Annie’s Homestay, going for less than S$10 per night! Travellers rave about Annie’s warm hospitality and how she loves showing guests her favourite hidden gems around the city — places only locals know about. 

As of late, Annie’s Homestay only accepts female travellers, and the address is only disclosed upon confirmed reservation. 

Naturally, you will be sharing the space with Annie and her family, which may not be ideal if you value personal space. But hey, it’s a great way to pick up some Vietnamese phrases, other than from Duolingo.

Whether you’re all about comfort or chasing adventure, your choice of stay really depends on what kind of getaway you’re planning.

If your itinerary is packed to the brim with shopping plans and cafe hopping around District 1, then a comfy hotel or a stylish Airbnb will do just fine.

But if you’re looking to slow things down, meet new people, and experience life like a local, then a homestay might just give you that fresh new perspective.
