AM:PM CAFE

True to its name, AM:PM CAFE is open as late as midnight on Fridays, meaning you’ll never have to worry about post-CCA hunger pangs.

The cafe is best known for its Hong Kong-style Egglet Waffles, which come freshly baked in Plain (S$9) or Pandan (S$12.50).

Once you’ve picked your base, select your soft serve flavour, which includes Blue Vanilla, Salted Caramel, and more.

No Horse Run Cafe

No Horse Run Cafe needs no introduction. The cafe has gone viral online for their unique gelato flavours and waffles, but it’s a great lunch spot too.

Swing by during lunchtime from 11am to 4pm on weekdays for Student Saver meals. For S$6.50, choose between mains including Grilled Chicken Aglio Olio, Mac and Cheese, and Cheesy baked rice.

You can also get add-ons ranging from S$2 to S$3.50, such as Milk Tea and Fries.

Another must-try is their Korean Cream Waffles. Three sizes are offered, including Whole (S$13.90, two flavours), Half (S$8.90, one flavour), and Quarter (S$5.90).

F.I.C.

At first glance, F.I.C. looks like your standard Vietnamese food spot. But upon closer inspection, the homey eatery offers some less common finds in Singapore.

Typical Vietnamese fare such as Fresh Viet Rolls (S$5.45) and Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Salad (S$5.45) can be found here.

The Signature Patisserie

Muffin compares to a freshly-baked treat to warm your soul after a long lecture. 

All you have to do is let your nose follow the waft of handcrafted muffins to the cosy, woody storefront of The Signature Patisserie.

You can either box the muffins up and take them home, or sit down to savour them slowly. The assortment of flavours includes Durian Cream Cheese (S$4.60), Matcha Red Bean (S$4), and Oreo Nutella (S$4).

The muffins won’t be the only delights you’ll wipe clean of crumbs. Tuck into brunch items such as Har Cheong Gai Waffles (S$22), TSP French Toast (S$19), and The Breakfast Burger (S$20).

Along the same row of shops is The Signature Patisserie’s next-door neighbour, Carpenter & Cook, another homely cafe serving brunch with a wider range of pastries, tarts, and brews.

W39 Bistro & Bakery changes that. In fact, your furbabies are more than welcome to dine with you through their pet-friendly menu.

Another pet-friendly cafe to add to your list is FlagWhite. You’ll find Australian-inspired comfort food, all-day brunch, and coffee starting from S$3.50 for an Espresso to S$9 for Affogato, Flagwhite’s White Cold Brew, and more.

It’s not every day you can mix and match your brunch to your liking, any time of day.

Select from your choice of egg, flaggers, and bread to build your brunch. 

For Eggs, choose between Sunny Eggs (S$5), Scrambled (S$5), or Sous Vide (2 pieces) (S$5). The bread selection is just as short and sweet, with Sourdough (2 pieces) (S$4), Croissant (S$4), or Japanese Shokupan (S$4).

Most gelato shops offer the usual waffles or cones, but Overscoop will have you over the moon with their customisations.

Waffles come in Plain (S$7), Dark Cocoa (add S$0.50), Pandan (add S$0.50), and the ever-popular Mochi (add S$1).

Other less common bases include croffle (S$7), brownie (S$6.50), and lava cake (S$6.50).

Afterwards, stack your plate high with gelato, ranging from a single (S$5) to a whopping quadruple (S$16) scoops. 

As the “cherry” on top, crown your gelato with a free overscoop (get it?), aka a mini scoop.

Yeast Side, best side? It certainly is at KAP Mall, home to this cafe by day and craft beer joint by night.

If you take the bus to the stop opposite Ngee Ann Polytechnic, you’ve probably caught glimpses of its iconic yellow print on its glass storefront as you pass KAP Mall by.

As hinted in its name, what you knead to know is that the cafe rolls out sourdough pizzas and focaccia sandwiches.

You’ll be in for a toss-up between cheekily named pizzas such as Shroooms! (S$20), Foursome With Honey (S$21), and Hold My Salami (S$23).

Or sink into the sandwiches, including Smashed Beef (S$19), Mr Crabs (S$18), and SriLankan Chicken (S$16).

Any day is Acai Day; I don’t make the rules. With the recent closure of Acai Den in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, you’re probably on the hunt for other acai options in the area.

Not only do they have acai bowls, smoothies, and sorbets, but they are priced pretty affordably, so you’re getting bang for your buck.

Best of all, it’s open till midnight — the perfect pick-me-up after long school days.

Starting with the signature acai bowls, choose between customising your bowl from scratch or getting any of the classics such as Greek Goddess and Chia Me Up (S$6.70 for small, S$9.90 for medium, S$14.90 for large). 

Cool down with the sorbets, including #Man Goals, a clever mix of acai and mango sorbet, Choc-oat-late, and Coco Island (S$7.30 for small, S$10.50 for medium, S$15.50 for large).

Finally, smooth things over with the smoothies. For S$8.90, go wild over the Berry Bliss, Cacao Overload, and Lean & Green.

A meal for under S$10, in this economy?

Waffletown is one place that can proudly back this up with its range of wallet-friendly meals.

Making its triumphant return with its new outlet in Clementi, the eatery maintains its original, old-school charm.

The value meals are available for S$7.50, which includes the Super Curry Rice, the Super Value Meal, and the Super Value Meal Japan Vers.

The burgers are just as filling and decently priced, with the cheapest being the Chicken Burger at just S$3.80 a la carte. The price goes up to S$7.80 to make it a meal. 

Those seeking lighter bites can try Waffletown’s signature  Belgium Waffles. The prices range from S$2.80 for a Creative Waffle to S$7.20 for Fried Chicken & Waffle, and more.

First, this outlet boasts two floors that exude different vibes!

On the first floor, choose between outdoor or indoor seating.

Or for a more private setting, head upstairs. 

Whether you’re chatting over long communal tables or huddling in what I’d dub the “couple’s cave”, aka a snug nook built for two, the dimly lit space with closed curtains felt like a secret hideaway.

Found your cosy corner? Good. To sweeten the deal, there’ll be a one-for-one scoop promotion on opening day from 3pm to 8pm! This basically means bringing a friend or just treating yourself twice.

But if you’re unsure what to get, I’ve got you covered. 

Of the 12 flavours available, the new ones include Earl Grey Lemon Tea (Dairy-free by the way — a win for anyone lactose-intolerant!) and Biscoff Cheesecake. 

Price-wise, single scoops go for S$5 while double is S$9. Add a S$1 if you’re opting for the premium flavours.

And if you’re having it in a cone instead, add a S$1 as well.

We sampled Earl Grey Lemon Tea, as it’s the first time I’ve heard of lemon tea gelato so I just had to.

This was refreshing, light, and tangy. If you’re not indulgent, get this and you’ll probably want seconds.

Fan-favourites include Milky Honeycomb, Brownies N Cream, and Grape Yakult W/ Oreo Bits.

Compared to the rest, Milky Honeycomb was creamier. The honeycomb added a caramelised sweetness without being too cloying.

You can’t go wrong with the classic Brownies N Cream, as the rich chocolate flavour comforts the soul.

And finally, yes, even I had to do a double-take, the Grape Yakult W/ Oreo Bits. This sounds like an unlikely duo, but never judge a book by its cover (or more like its swirl).

First lick and I’m not exaggerating when I say this — but it tasted almost exactly like Grape Yakult. Sweet, milky, fruity, and with Yakult’s signature tanginess, it’s like licking (or biting, I won’t judge) the drink.

Personally, the soft Oreo bits didn’t do much for me, but it didn’t clash or overpower.

It’s like dunking your Oreo into a tangy, fruity milk.

Now for the headline act. If you don’t know what After Hours Gelato is known for, it’s their Signature Churros Mochi Waffle (S$8.50).

We got two scoops to crown this masterpiece — Milky Honeycomb and Grape Yakult W/ Oreo Bits.

Both flavours are starkly different, but worked amazingly with the waffle for various reasons. 

Pair the waffles with Grape Yakult W/ Oreo Bits for a reminder of fruit-based mochis. 

For Milky Honeycomb, the waffle’s toasty cinnamon and crunchy notes contrast nicely with its smooth creaminess for a rich, satisfying spoonful.

Aside from this, you must get the outlet-exclusive item — Dalgona Coffee Cream Butter Toast Set (S$18) if you’ve still got room for more.

A major throwback to 2020, this thick and soft toast, combined with a vanilla gelato scoop and the dalgona coffee cream, reminded us of tiramisu.

Finally, we ended with drinks — Iced Matcha Latte (S$7) and Watermelon Calpis (S$6).

The Iced Matcha Latte was not too sweet, while the Watermelon Calpis didn’t have as much watermelon flavour as we expected, but it was still refreshing.

Guess what our friends from Down Under have gifted us?

Gelato Messina, a famous Australian gelato chain, has opened its first-ever outlet in Singapore.

Here’s the lowdown on what to expect.

The gelato brand has swapped its “mate” for “bro”, bringing 40 flavours to our sunny island, including five Singapore-exclusive gelato flavours.

These include Kaya Toast, Tau Huay (silken tofu), Singapore, How Are You Durian?, Teh Tarik, and Yolk’s On You.

While most of these are taken directly from their inspirations, Singapore, How Are You Durian? and Yolk’s On You, are densely packed with other indulgent elements. 

Singapore, How Are You Durian? is a coconut gelato with durian jam and durian cake, while Yolk’s On You combines salted egg yolk with gula melaka caramel. 

As for non-local flavours, they include Hokey Pokey, Boysenberry, and more.

Our lactose-intolerant friends have not been forgotten! Eight sorbet options await, like Salted Coconut & Mango Salsa, Passion Fruit, and more.

Did I also mention the sorbets are vegan? That means fewer headaches looking for the gelato spot that fits everyone’s needs.

Cost-wise, I’ll admit your wallet might feel a bit of a pinch — single scoops go for S$7.50, while a double costs S$10, and a triple is S$12.

Cone and cup options are available at the same price.

In this case, judging by the prices, the more you scoop, the less you spend on each individually, and the more smiles you get (This is girl-math approved).

If you’re still unsure about giving it a swirl, don’t worry, as I’m here with our review.

We got three flavours — Tiramisu, Panna Cotta w/ Fig Jam & Amaretti, and Kaya Toast.

Scooping into Kaya Toast, I’ll have to say that this is the real deal — no soft serve here.

The OG dish is incorporated down to the T. You’ll find kaya jam in the mix, as well as toasted bread chunks.

Kaya jam itself is pretty sweet, but this gets the ultimate Asian compliment of “not too sweet” whilst remaining true to the original coconut taste. 

We were also pleasantly surprised that the toasted bread chunks weren’t soggy at all, making for a complementary crunch!

If you’re not ready to cone-mit to the locally-inspired items, try the signature flavours instead. Tiramisu was yet another showstopper. Just like Kaya Toast, you’ll find actual sponge cake inside.

However, while it tasted like tiramisu, it lacked an alcohol flavour. Nevertheless, this is still a treat perfect for tiramisu lovers.

And finally, the Panna Cotta w/ Fig Jam & Amaretti is a great fruity option.

Smooth and creamy, the Amaretti biscuits provided nice bits of contrasting texture while the panna cotta base had subtle sweetness. And for a fruity finish, the fig jam’s flavour was present in every bite.

All in all, you’re in great hands no matter which flavour you try at Gelato Messina. So don’t say I didn’t warn you that you might just come back for seconds (or thirds, I won’t judge).

But with Singapore’s sweltering weather, wouldn’t it be nice to have something to beat the heat?

You came for the satay skewers, but now you can stay for some scoops.

Introducing Creme and Cone, a gelato boutique chilling things down at Lau Pa Sat’s locally-focused concept Food Folks.

The air-conditioned space houses more than 80% local food brands, like Nakoko, Fossa Chocolate, and more.

Staying cool whilst supporting local — you’re practically killing two birds with one stone!

So what exactly is Creme and Cone serving up? 

Well, here’s the inside scoop.

The gelato boutique has a cone and a flavour for every craving. 

There are 18 flavours to choose from.  These range from classics like Minty Chip, Strawberry Milk, and Pistachio to locally-inspired flavours like Milo & Cookies and Pandan Gula Melaka.

A single scoop costs S$5.70, while a double costs S$9.70. To get a premium flavour, you have to add S$1.

Or if you’ve got some time to spare and a need for something more substantial, get yourself a single (S$11.50) or double (S$15.50) scoop on waffles.

Back to the non-waffle options. You can opt for a cup or cone, and while I usually steer clear of the latter for inevitable sticky fingers, I couldn’t resist going all in.

After all, Creme and Cone also hand-roll their gourmet cones, which come in various locally-inspired flavours. Who can say no to that?

The cones come in three flavours, mainly Original, Pandan, and Milo. Obviously, having chosen the Pandan Gula Melaka, I had to go for the Pandan cone which is apparently made with real pandan extract.

With one whiff, I was hit with the unmistakable, fragrant aroma of pandan so I knew they weren’t lying.

Taste-wise, you can’t go wrong with twin flavours, as the crunch of the cone pairs well with the sweeter, creamy Pandan Gula Melaka gelato.

Basically, it was pandan-on-pandan perfection.

While I didn’t have the stomach to try other flavours, my dining partner was happily digging into his 64% Dark Chocolate gelato. And from the online reviews, many sang praises for favourites like Lychee Raspberry. 

Who says dessert time ends when the gelato does? The gelato boutique also offers small but satisfying bakes like Banana or Lemon Loaf (one for S$4.90, two for S$8) and Chocolate or Biscoff Brownie (one for S$7.90, two for S$14).

It’s clear that one scoop barely scratches the surface. Creme and Cone’s line-up of sweet treats proves that restraint is probably overrated, so it looks like a return trip (or two) is in order.

 Scoop & Sketch is a late-night gelato cafe and while there are plenty of gelato cafes in Singapore, there’s really none quite like this one. 

It  is located on the ground floor of Atrix Building along Geylang Lorong 23, and is also home to a tattoo parlour — hence the name Scoop & Sketch. Who would’ve thought that a tattoo parlour and a gelato cafe could be merged together under one roof? 

In case you’re wondering, yes, you can actually get a tattoo here, or watch someone get a tattoo, while you chow down some yummy gelato and waffles. 

Apart from the super unique concept, Scoop & Sketch also sports a very unique aesthetic. Unlike most gelato cafes which sport a minimalist theme overflowing with chill and zen vibes, this two-storey cafe has a more cartoon-ish aesthetic decked with fun and quirky colours. 

The ground floor of the cafe is where the “scoop” aspect of things is located — aka the F&B section. Here, you can choose to have your gelato in a cone (S$1), cup or with some freshly made waffles (S$7). Prices of the gelato are also kept pretty affordable starting from just S$5 for a single scoop. 

Flavour-wise, they also have some pretty unique flavours like Chrysanthemum Cacao Nibs, Blue Pea Vanilla, Matcha KitKat, Peanut Butter Strawberry Jelly and White Truffle gelato. 

But of course, they also have classic flavours like Earl Grey Lavender, Cookies & Cream, Salted Butterscotch, Speculoos, and Black Sesame. 

My favourite was definitely the Grape Yakult which was super tangy and refreshing, especially on a hot sunny day. It added a nice sour and fruity zing to the fluffy waffle. 

If you love peanut butter, the Peanut Butter Strawberry will definitely be right up your alley. It is super gao with a strong peanut flavour but also has a nice sweet strawberry finish. 

Apart from serving gelatos and waffles, the cafe also has beverages like coffees, sodas and craft beers from funky brands like Brother Beer (from S$17), Lost Coast beer (from S$16), and more.

If you love Korean convenience store drinks, you’d be pleased to know that you’ll also be able to find some of them here!

If you’re like me and need a drink with your gelato, Scoop & Sketch has a special Happy Meal option from just S$14 which comes with a scoop of gelato, waffle, and a drink — simply perfection. We recommend pairing your gelato with their Iced Mocha (S$6) that was not too sweet and milky with a robust coffee aroma.

The second floor is where all the ‘sketching’ happens. The second floor space is occupied by Naked Skin Tattoo parlour. There’s also more seats available on the second floor with a view of someone getting a tattoo — although if you have a fear of needles, you might wanna stay on the ground floor. 

Interestingly, if you get a tattoo done here, you’ll be able to enjoy some food discounts. And of course, if you feel inspired by the artsy decor to get inked here, you’ll also get to enjoy a discount off your new tattoo. 

Prices for a tattoo vary based on the complexity of the design and start from S$150. Not gonna lie, their designs got me intrigued and I was tempted to get a tattoo done. 

For those who are on the fence about getting a permanent tattoo, the cafe will also have a temporary tattoo station that will begin operations in March, operating only on weekends. 

Scoop & Sketch will also have their very own photobooth opening soon, and judging by the quirky interior of the cafe, we can’t wait to see what the photobooth has to offer. 

Other exciting things in the pipeline include a Sketch card which will have a topic of the day for you to sketch anything you want while you enjoy your ice cream. There’ll also be a merch shop, Papa Shop, which will feature exclusive merch like temporary tattoos, stickers and more.

If you’re planning to head down, make sure to come by in your PJs because you’ll be able to enjoy the Scoop & sleep one-for-one gelato deal! But the catch is you cannot come in just any sleepwear, you gotta come in actual printed pyjamas — anyone up for a little slumber party?

The cosy cafe is located along Middle Road and if there’s one thing you must know about Tom’s Palette, it’s that they have an extensive menu of unique flavours. Just how unique are we talking? Think Pipagao, Nasi Lemak, Butterbeer & Crack Candy, Root Beer Float, Dong Ding Oolong, and even Pu’er (yes, the tea). 

The menu changes daily, so every trip here offers a whole new experience. Each day, there’ll be a selection of 36 flavours available. And if you’re not sure what to get, you can go for their mainstays like the Wild Strawberry Balsamic, Granny’s Favourite, or Italian Dark Chocolate. Prices start from S$5.20 for a single cup and S$9.60 for a double cup. You can also add on S$1.20 for a waffle cone, made fresh to order.

If you’re coming down with your friends or family, go for the Tom’s Palette (S$29.80) which features a set of six flavours — why get one scoop when you can have six! The palette is great for sharing and you get to try some of the iconic flavours of the day. 

Our platter had a scoop of Dublin Coffee which had a super strong whisky flavour — that’s how you know that they don’t scrimp on their ingredients. We reckon you alcohol lovers will enjoy this one. We also had the Honey Lavender which was light and very creamy. As someone who doesn’t like lavender, I found the flavour of this one growing on me.

You can also pair your ice cream with a nice and lightly sweet Belgian waffle. I love having my ice creams with waffles and boy do I have to say that the Belgian waffle here was one of the best I’ve had. It was light and fluffy with a slight sweetness to it. 

Flavours-wise, the Soya Bean Fritters and the Hojicha really stood out to me. The Hojicha was light and creamy, with a strong fragrance of the roasted tea — you definitely have to get this if it’s on the menu. 

The Soya Bean Fritters is also another must-try, especially if you love traditional soya bean milk. There are chunks of youtiao mixed in the ice cream to give it an added texture. For something a little bit more adventurous, go for the White Chocolate Nori which is a sweet white chocolate ice cream base with bits of savoury seaweed mixed in.

Other unique combinations include Lemongrass Pandan Ginger, Guinness Chocolate, Salted Caramel Cheesecake and a Parmesan Cheese & Cream Crackers. If you’re looking for something refreshing, the Soursop sorbet with bits of the soursop fruit inside. It was tangy, sweet, and oh so refreshing — perfect for beating the heat in Singapore. 

There’s also a brand new flavour, Maple Pecan, which is a sweet and creamy vanilla-based ice cream with generous bits of roasted pecans and the fragrance of maple syrup. It’s like the perfect ice cream for springtime.

Pro tip: if you’re planning a trip down to their revamped shop space, make sure to head down early as the cafe gets really crowded in the evenings!

It may look just like your typical neighbourhood ice cream parlour, with its limited seating, clean furnishings, and location (it is sandwiched in between a laundromat and hair salon at the foot of a HDB block), but the menu is one that stands out from the rest.

Take your pick from the rather unique selection of handcrafted Silcilian-style gelato (from S$4.20 per scoop) in fun seasonal flavours like Caramelized Banana Prata, Maple Walnut Pie, Salted Oreo, and a locally-inspired Kopi Toast. These are joined by the usual suspects like Thai Milk Tea, Matcha, and Vanilla Pod, all of which are freshly churned on a regular basis.

Plant-based folk have not been forgotten, as vegan-friendly options like Pink Guava Berries, Mango Basil, and Cendol Jackfruit are also served here. Another thing to note is that delato refrains from using any pork, lard, or alcohol in their dessert offerings.

There are 12 gelato flavours on rotation at any given time, so you can look forward to new, limited-edition flavour every time you visit.

You can choose to pair your ice cream with a Charcoal Cone (S$1.20) or delato’s signature Matcha Mochi Waffles (S$7), which are studded with chewy mochi bits. Feel free to also jazz things up with toppings (S$0.50) like rice crispy puffs, biscoff crumbs, and maple syrup.

Alternatively, order a Duo Waffle (S$7.50), comprising half an original waffle and half a matcha mochi waffle, if you want to have the best of both worlds.

Beverages include speciality espresso-based coffees, Chocolate, and Matcha Latte (from S$4.50), but I’ve got my eye on the Maple Latte (from S$5), which sounds perfect for easing into the year-end “fall” vibes.

delato opens till 1am from Friday to Sunday, so why not head down for a late post-dinner dessert fix with your pals?

Having started out as a humble online shop specialising in artisan handcrafted gelato in 2021, Days of Elijah has finally branched out with its very own physical 12-seater space. It’s cute and cosy with an overarching heritage theme in the form of Peranakan-style floor tiles and a feature wall adorned with nostalgic drawings depicting life in old-school Singapore.

The gelato here is handcrafted with fresh ingredients in flavours inspired by the local sweet treats from the 70s and 80s.

Prices start from S$4 for a Single and S$7.50 for a Double scoop, with an additional S$1 for premium flavours. Enjoy your gelato and sorbet in a Cone (+S$1) or atop a crispy Waffle (from S$9.50).

You can expect a rotating menu of locally-inspired “childhood” flavours alongside classics like Spectaculoos, Green Mint Chocolate (a flavour I can never resist), and an excellent Chocolate Sorbet.

The retro-tastic highlights are, of course, the zesty and creamy Lemon Puff inspired by the iconic Khong Guan lemon sandwich biscuits (I still enjoy them to this day), as well as the Pulut Hitam, which puts a spin on the black glutinous rice dessert we all know and love.

The Haw Ah (Shan Zha), a sweet and sour hawthorn-flavoured gelato studded with the actual haw flakes, is a must-try — we hear it really resembles the popular childhood snack.

You can get ice cream virtually anywhere — convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurants, speciality cafes and the list goes on. Most of them carry the same few, safe selection of flavours like chocolate, vanilla, pistachio and so on, but what if you’re craving something a little different? 

Cue Winterwoods, a gelato cafe tucked within the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio serving a variety of unique, Asian-inspired ice cream flavours from S$4 a scoop. 

Started by a couple of young entrepreneurs, the cafe is inspired by the peaceful Japanese woods in the winter (also a favourite travel experience one of the founders had in Tokyo) — which is reflected in the cafe’s minimalistic white, grey and wood-accented interiors. 

Seeking to give you the feeling of stepping into a Japanese cafe in the midst of winter, here’s where you can choose Asian-inspired gelato flavours ranging from Coconut Sticky Rice Mango Compote (hello mango sticky rice in gelato form!), and Pulut Hitam (chewy black glutinous rice with coconut), to Durian MSW and Roasted Sesame. 

Alternatively, if you’re looking for flavours that aren’t quite so local, you could also give their Avocado Coconut Stracciatella, Yuzu Crumble Pie or Bitter Gianduja a try.

Once you’ve chosen the gelato you want, you can also opt to have them served in a nutty sesame cone (S$1.50), fragrant cinnamon cone (S$1.50), or classic buttermilk waffles (S$4. 50) and dark chocolate waffles (S$5) with dark chocolate chips! They also have beverages if you’re looking for something to drink with cold brew coffee and more available.

So if you’re around the area, or simply looking for a new ice cream place to hit up other than the usual suspects, head over and give their speciality gelatos a shot!
