As a westie, my best memories of the old Anchorpoint is that the mall was dark with  barely anything to do. But a trip to the newly revamped mall changed all that. The mall now sports a new nautical-theme, along with a vibrant and eye-catching swimming pool mural. 

The mall has retained some of its previous tenants as well as welcomed a fresh mix of tenants, not one but two yoga studios, a comics library, lots of food options, and more — here’s what to look out for:

1. The Marmalade Pantry 

As you walk into the mall, you’ll be greeted by the deep emerald green fixtures of The Marmalade Pantry. If you’re looking for a chill place to relax and enjoy a hearty meal or just in the mood for some afternoon tea, you can always count on these guys to have your back. 

On the menu are your favourite items like The Marmalade Mac and Cheese (S$25), Crispy Skin Salmon (S$32), Pan-seared Barramundi (S$32), as well as other hearty local staples like the Prawn Laksa Burger (S$28), Nasi Lemak Risotto (S$28) and more. 

The menu also features outlet-exclusive dishes too including a dedicated kid’s menu and a special afternoon tea menu as well as a special Yuletide Feast that is only available until 7 January 2024 — just in time for the holiday season!

2. Daun Bistro 

It’s food galore here at Anchorpoint and if you’re ever in the neighbourhood, make sure to check out Daun Bistro, serving unique Indonesian and Western style tapas, mains and more. Spice lovers, if you’re looking for a nice homemade sambal that really kicks, you must try Daun Bistro’s sambal selection. 

The cosy bistro makes for a great weekend family dinner spot with the whole family, or if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to enjoy some post-work drinks. They have hearty sharing platters, grilled meats, Balinese grilled seafood as well as unique fusion snacks like Truffle Toast (S$17.50), Nacho Cheese Emping (S$11.50), and more! 

They also have affordable weekday set lunches from just S$17.90 which comes with a free drink and a dessert.

3. Common Man Coffee Roasters 

Need a quick pick me up after shopping at IKEA? Or looking for somewhere to grab a nice cuppa? Common Man Coffee Roasters is the place to head to. Nestled conveniently at the heritage building at the front of Anchorpoint, the coffee house promises an eclectic dining experience from day to night.

By day, the cafe serves delicious coffee alongside yummy pastries like the Umami Mushroom Avocado Toast (S$12), Turkish Common Man Breakfast (S$28), Kouign Amann Toast (S$25) and more. They’re best known for their expertly prepared specialty coffee so make sure to grab a cup before you leave. 

By night, the cafe transforms into Common Man Night Shift where they serve hearty mains inspired by classic Italian, Japanese and Middle-Eastern flavours.

4. Anagram Coffee

There can never be enough coffee spots in a mall and this hole-in-the-wall coffee space serves a pretty cuppa. Anagram Coffee sports a clean minimalist Japandi ‘glass-house’ aesthetic which makes it one of the best spots in the mall to relax and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. However, the space is a little small so it’s not exactly an ideal place to sit down and work. 

Coffee takes centre stage here, and you can expect lots of different types of brews on their menu. They use different blends of beans for their coffees, like the RUFOUS blend used in their Black (S$5) as well as the ANNA blend used in their White (S$6). They also have occasional fresh bakes on the shelves to pair with your coffee.

5. Overbrød 

Have you tried Scandinavian food before? Well, it looks like IKEA might soon be facing tough competition as Anchorpoint has welcomed Overbrod to their premises — and rumour has it they serve some of the best Swedish meatballs. 

You’ll mostly find Swedish-Danish dishes like the quintessential Smørrebrød which is an open-faced sandwich typically found in most Norwegian cities. Other interesting dishes on their menu include the Hay-smoked Buttered Dill Potatoes, Gravadlax (cured salmon), Toast Skagen (shrimps), and more!

6. Fang Patisserie 

Fang Patisserie is known for their intricately decorated cakes that taste just as good as it looks. Just how intricate are their cakes? Well, their aesthetic cakes are made to resemble certain objects like an eyeball (for halloween), mushrooms, and even a handbag.

However, if you’re looking to bag one of these bakes home, you have to head down early as their bakes are only available in limited amounts and so you wanna grab it before it’s all gone. 

One of my favourites on the menu is the “Dwayne” (S$8.50) — which actually has a very punny meaning behind its name. The cake comprises a black sesame sponge cake with black sesame mousse, raspberry jam filling, and is shaped like a pebble (or a rock). If you connect the dots, the name literally means “Dwayne The Rock” — get it? 

Other unique cakes on the menu include Mango, which is shaped like the fruit, and Rosée (not from BLACKPINK). I’m most eager to try the Oreo which is a mini minty oreo cheesecake on top of an eggless chocolate brownie. They also have traditional pastries like Curry Puff (S$3.60), and Cheese Sausage Puff (S$3.80) for more savoury options.

7. A KIND OOOF

Everyone knows how much a good accessory can really elevate any outfit. If you’re looking for something classy and elegant statement piece, then you have to check out A KIND OOOF. They’ve got all the accessories you need from classic gold earrings and necklaces, to minimalist silver pieces that will definitely give you an added look of sophistication. 

What I love the most about A KIND OOOF, apart from their pocket-friendly prices, they also have accessories for guys and all their accessories are made from top quality materials too. They even have gift ideas for those who are looking to shop for a present on a budget — this will certainly save you all the hassle.

8. Baazar Modern Indian Grocer 

There’s plenty of specialty markets all around Singapore. Joining the list of specialty supermarkets is Baazar Modern Indian Grocer. They have a wide variety of fresh produce, spices, sauces, chutney, and even Indian wine and spirits. They’ve also got a wide selection of authentic Indian snacks. 

Sometimes, when you’re too busy to cook, frozen foods can really save the day. Here, they have a selection of unique frozen foods like chilli garlic potato bites, masala fries, veggie nuggets, different types of hummus, and more. You can even get fresh idli dosa batter here too.

9. Yoga Movement 

If getting in shape and leading a healthier, more active lifestyle is on your new year’s resolution, it’s still not too late to kickstart that fitness journey. But if you’re like me and absolutely hate running, then maybe yoga might be the sport for you. 

Yoga Movement offers different types of yoga classes for different levels of expertise and different needs. For those looking for a more intense workout, they’ve got a resistance and a HIIT Yoga class. There’s even Hot Yoga classes that will definitely have you sweating buckets. 

What’s also cool is they have a Zen yoga class that sounds amazing, especially when you’ve had a tough day at work. 

10. Sandycombe Lane 

New homeowners looking to decorate your home, we have a new spot in Anchorpoint for you to check out if you’re looking for that statement piece for your home. And yes, we get it, IKEA is right across the street. But, Sandycombe Lane offers something that you’d not be able to find at IKEA. 

Sandycombe Lane has a wide selection of stylish and high-quality furniture pieces that are both unique and functional. You’ll definitely be able to find the perfect piece that speaks to your style and more importantly, your budget. 

What’s cool about this store is it is mostly unmanned and if you like any piece of furniture, you can just take a photo and send it to the owners via WhatsApp.

Apart from these new tenants, there’s also a clinic, a russian ballet dance studio, as well as some familiar names like Cotton On, Cold Storage, MR DIY, and (of course) Tiong Bahru Bakery. 

Fun fact: there are also different cycling trails that are connected to the mall so you can make a pit stop and fuel up before going on your way!
