1. Stranger Conversations

Starting the list with Stranger Conversations, or Stranger Convos for short. This community space allows strangers from all walks of life to gather and learn from each other’s perspectives. It soon birthed more purposeful gatherings, ranging from book clubs, group therapy and even a series of introductory DJ workshops. 

While the community space does allow free entry, some of these gatherings are priced between S$20 to S$50. When there aren’t any active events happening, feel free to visit and make use of the living room to complete your miscellaneous tasks.

2. Screaming Pigeons 

Calling all ladies in their 20s to 40s—here’s a community group that’s all about sisterhood—Screaming Pigeons! While Stranger Convos offer a physical space for all genders and ages, Screaming Pigeons is an all-woman space where strangers come together intentionally to connect, share, and support one another.

Events range from hiking, brunch, and sometimes dance workshops. The frequency of such events also varies, either on a weekly or monthly basis. Prices start from S$15 per event, but if you’re looking to make newfound sisters, then this is the place for you.

3. Timeleft 

Ever wanted to try a platonic blind date? You can with Timeleft, an app that’s gained international success and has been available in Singapore since 2024. App users sign up for anonymous dinners held on selected Wednesday, with all details revealed just 24 hours beforehand. 

On the day, you’ll meet five strangers at a designated restaurant or bar for a relaxed, no-pressure dinner. If the vibes are right, Timeleft even plans an after-dinner bar so you can continue the night together. Prefer something more light-hearted? The app also offers coffee and drinks sessions for a more laid-back meet-up. 

In order to be part of Timeleft, you’ll need a subscription—plans start at S$29.98 for one month, S$59.98 for three months, and S$89.98 for six months. Note that food and drinks are not included, as spending depends on each participant’s willingness.

4. Kampung Spirit 

If you’re a Pasir Ris resident, then you’re in luck—Kampung Spirit is an initiative started by the Pasir Ris Community Club team to promote a sense of camaraderie among volunteers and neighbours. 

Either sign up as a volunteer or attend their intentional hangouts in the evening; the events are specially curated to build proximity friendships. Unlike the previous recommendations, Kampung Spirit’s events grant free admission to anyone—just make sure to sign up ahead of time before the slots run out.

5. Casual Poet Library 

What if you could go beyond dinner sessions and be part of an independent library? That’s exactly what Casual Poet Library offers—a community-led library run by bookworms and volunteer librarians. 

Beyond its cosy physical space, the library hosts book clubs where readers can share thoughts and perspectives. You can even rent a personal cubicle to loan out your favourite books for others to discover. Casual Poet Library opens from 10am to 9pm, Tuesday to Sunday, with special midnight hours every last Saturday of the month for night owls who prefer to read late.

After visiting the Stranger Convos living room, head downstairs to Kult Yard—a bar known for its local-inspired cocktails and lively community nights. 

Every Thursday, Kult Yard hosts Plug & Play sessions where you can bring along your prized Beyblade, or pick up an instrument and jam with fellow music lovers. On other nights, the space buzzes with laughter and chatter as crowds unwind after work—a third social space for you and your friends. 

If you’re raring to head down, be sure to visit them from 5pm to 12am on Tuesday to Friday, or 3pm to 12am on weekends.

9. Easy Pace* Only 

Run clubs have been booming lately, and among the many we’ve come across, Easy Pace* Only stood out as a welcoming option for runners of all levels. With an inclusive and supportive community, it’s a great choice for anyone looking to start running with others at a comfortable pace. 

Whether you’re training for a marathon or clocking in your 10km steps, there’s bound to be one of the four pace groups that matches your preference. In terms of the schedule, they host once every fortnight, across various locations like Marina Bay or East Coast Park.

10. Filmhouse

When The Projector closed down, many cinephiles mourned over the news, as it used to serve as a third space for people to bond over their love of films. Thankfully, a new independent entity, known as Filmhouse, will be opening its doors soon this month. 

Located at Golden Mile Tower, you can expect to watch award-winning indie films, such as Hamnet, Rental Family, Sentimental Value, and more during its opening week. Everyone is speculating that filmhousesg might be The Projector 2.0, and fingers crossed that it’ll be just as lively as its predecessor.

11. Tova SG

If Timeleft didn’t quite hit the mark, check out Tova SG, a members-only collective that hosts curated nightlife events. Past parties range from ice bath and sauna raves to Y2K no-phone throwbacks and rooftop soirees. 

In order to join, you’ll need to apply for membership and wait for approval. While a free tier is available, paid members enjoy the perks. All in all, it’s a solid pick if you’re after an exclusive night out with the right crowd.

12. Weird Happenings

Casual Poet Library and Aliwal Chess Club might be unconventional, but Weird Happenings takes quirkiness to the next level. They host events in unusual venues—like their last Halloween party at Hangout Laundry. 

When not raving at laundromats, they use community spaces like Stranger Convos for experiences, such as blindfolded conversations, where you can chat with strangers relying solely on your other senses.

Another standout community space is Playces, which hosts a variety of events—including the upcoming Valentine’s singles mixer, Pitch Your Single, in collaboration with percent20twenty.

15. Liquid Convos

16. Dinner with Strangers 

Last but not least, Dinner with Strangers offers a twist on Timeleft’s concept—you’ll share a first-time dinner with new people, but instead of signing up, you’re waitlisted until the founder personally selects you. 

This makes the experience more curated, as participants are chosen by a human rather than an algorithm. While no upcoming event has been announced yet, we’re hopeful one will happen in 2026.
