A collaboration between a creative agency and Melbourne-inspired cafe Bearded Bella, Main Street Commissary describes itself as a “super chill cafe in the heart of Little India at 81 Rowell Road, serving up great coffee & delicious food at affordable prices“. True enough, the minimalist, no-frills interior, wooden furniture, and overall chill vibes speak for themselves.

The All Day Brekkie boasts an extensive selection of open-faced toasts, sandwiches, and croissants. First-timers can go for the bestselling Sriracha Chicken Brioche (S$11.50) or the Avocado Toast (S$12.50).

Why not try the elevated version of a breakfast staple we all know and love — the locally-inspired Kaya French Toast (S$8.50) comprising soft-boiled eggs and fluffy brioche French toast with butter, kaya, pandan cream, and coconut chips?

The Truffle-Maker (S$11.50), black truffle egg mayo on a flaky croissant, is also a hot favourite. But if you’re completely spoilt for choice, the Breakfast of Champions (S$16.50) — sourdough toast, scrambled eggs, roasted mushrooms, hashbrowns, greens, and pork sausage — will not let you down.

On a healthy kick? Available from 11am onwards is the Salmon Rice Bowl (S$16.50), which consists of pan-fried salmon with pico de gallo, kimchi, purple cabbage, and an onsen egg.

If you’re in the mood to treat yourself, however, the Lasagna Roll Ups (S$15.50), an indulgent combination of rich beef sauce, bechamel, and cheese, as well as the Salmon Cream Pasta (S$17), which is topped with a whole pan-fried salmon, will do just nicely.

Those swinging by for tea can take their pick from a rotating menu of pastries and desserts, which include the likes of Banoffee Pie (S$7.50), NY-Style Chocolate Chip Cookies (S$3.50), and Hojicha Mousse Cake. Honestly, everything sounds way too enticing.

Aside from the usual coffee offerings, Main Street Commissary is perhaps best known for cold brew coffee and tea. Take home a sleek glass bottle or two of Cold Brew (from S$5.50 for Black), or unwind over a maple-infused macchiato cream-topped Cold Brew Macchiato (from S$6.50).

The baristas also make a mean Spanish Latte (S$6.50), otherwise known as a café con leche, a sweet espresso-based coffee with both regular and condensed milk.

As mentioned previously, the cafe also functions as a “curatorial art space” showcasing different contemporary artists from photographers to poets to tattoo artists.

From now till 30 November 2022, the gallery will be featuring the works of Sze, a local stick and poke tattoo artist from Wild Paw Tattoo — perhaps you might gain some inspiration for your first (or next) tattoo as you enjoy brunch with a view!

Recently, we’ve been blessed with new places popping up all over Singapore channelling the vibes of our favourite vacation spots.

While Japan seems to be the hot choice, Around’s Tampines cafe space provides a rarer ambience. It almost feels like an idyllic glasshouse cafe hidden away in the outskirts of a trendy city like Melbourne or Seoul

Although the location says it’s in The Alps Residence, it’s accessible to the public without going through condo security. Not only that, but it’s also open until 2am!

Around cafe’s Tampines outlet looks beautiful inside and out. On the facade, it’s a sleek little metal-glass cabin that’s covered in tall windows to let light in.

Inside, the space is clean and tastefully decorated in white with understated green accents. The tall ceilings and lofty windows make it look spacious and comfy.

Other than just being extremely gorgeous, Around mainly operates as an Ice Cream Cafe, though you can also find items like Acai Bowls (S$9.90) on their menu.

They charge S$4.20 per single scoop or S$8 for a double scoop. Some interesting flavours you can find include Cereal Milk, Peanut Butter and Blueberries, 100% Arabica coffee, and Blueberry Yoghurt.

Alternatively, you can top up S$1 for premium flavours including Yakult Oreo, Peppermint Chocolate, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Speculoos.

For those who don’t like their ice cream plain, you can pair it with a Cone for S$1. On the other hand, Waffles cost S$7.90 on their own and S$11.90 with a single scoop or S$14.90 with a double scoop.

If ice cream isn’t your thing, there’s also an assortment of bakes here. Cakes cost S$7.90 and include flavours like Apple Crumble Cheesecake and Strawberry Cheesecake.

But if you’re just going to Around’s Tampines outlet to revel in those glasshouse vibes, you might prefer getting something to sip on.

Other than your standard caffeine options like Latte (S$4.90/hot, S$5.90/iced) and Long Black (S$3.90/hot, S$4.90/iced), they also have signature Mocktails (S$6.90) like Watermelon Lush and Mango Sunshine.

If you’re looking for an exciting new cafe spot that can momentarily whisk you away from Singapore, this place might just placate those wanderlust pangs you’re nursing. Otherwise, you might also want to check out some of the cool themed cafes Singapore has to offer.

That’s why we were sure we heard a million sighs of relief echo through Singapore when it was announced dining out will be allowed from this week.

If you’re looking for a gorgeous, brand-new brunch spot for your first weekend out in forever, check out SYIP.

They just opened recently at Hamilton Road, close to other popular cafes like Chye Seng Huat and For the People.

The decor’s clean monochrome palette and warm light accents give it a sharp industrial aesthetic. Simply eye candy for lovers of the minimalist aesthetic.

Their menu is quite diverse but there’s one item worth zeroing in on — their Kahlua Tiramisu (S$10). Before opening SYIP, the owners actually ran Soft Peaks Bakery, a popular online Tiramisu bakery.

To make this boozy Tiramisu, they soak the ladyfingers in a mixture of coffee and Kahlua then cover them in creamy mascarpone.

For the alcohol-averse, there’s also the plain Tiramisu available for S$7.

But if you’re looking for an indulgent cheat day brunch, SYIP has brunch classics like the hearty Creamy Chicken Scrambled Eggs Croissant (S$16) and wholesome Avocado on Sourdough Toast (S$14).

But if the Asian in you is screaming out for some rice, they also have Mentaiko Chicken (S$15) and Wagyu Beef (S$20) Rice Bowls available.

You also can’t miss the Burrata French Toast (S$22). It’s one of SYIP’s signature items and it is a stunning-looking plate of French Toast.

This looker features a shapely ball of burrata adorned atop a thick, fluffy slab of brioche toast. It’s flanked by 2 slices of crispy maple-glazed bacon and comes with a generous helping of maple syrup to douse all over.

If you’re looking for a caffeine fix you can go for the classics of Black (S$4), White (S$5), or their special SYIP Black (S$6) and White (S$6.50) spruced up with whipped cream.

They also have an interesting range of Uji Matcha drinks like the Matcha Latte (S$5.50) and the espresso-spiked Dirty Matcha (S$6). But the most unique creations are definitely the Matcha Strawberry (S$7.50) and Matcha Yuzu (S$7).
