<p>It’s no secret that I have a (completely healthy) obsession with <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/meatchelin-tanjong-pagar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Korean</a> food. I’m always on the lookout to find new places that can satisfy my Korean food cravings and lucky for me, there’s an underrated restaurant located in the west.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12.jpg" alt="Nana Bunsik" class="wp-image-75654" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12.jpg 1518w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-222x300.jpg 222w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-759x1024.jpg 759w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-768x1036.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-1139x1536.jpg 1139w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-1170x1578.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-289x390.jpg 289w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-12-585x789.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1518px) 100vw, 1518px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>Tucked away in <strong>NEWest</strong>, just a short bus ride away from <strong><a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/en-ramen-clementi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clementi</a></strong>, is <strong>Nana Bunsik</strong>. The cosy store serves authentic Korean food along with homemade <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/babchingu-korean-side-dishes-vivocity/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">kimchi</a> and more. The store is run by a friendly couple who first started selling their dishes online. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75655" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13.jpg 2048w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-300x200.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-768x512.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-1920x1281.jpg 1920w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-585x390.jpg 585w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-13-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into a homey restaurant in Korea. There’s even a shelf of crocheted Korean food that adds a touch of personality to the store.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10.jpg" alt="Nana Bunsik" class="wp-image-75656" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10.jpg 2048w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-300x207.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-1024x707.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-768x530.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-1536x1061.jpg 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-1920x1326.jpg 1920w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-1170x808.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-565x390.jpg 565w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-10-585x404.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>One of the most popular dishes on the menu is the <strong>Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap (S$18.80)</strong>. Unlike the regular bibimbap which comes with a dollop of <em>gochujang </em>sauce, the beef bibimbap at Nana’s Bunsik comes with the sweet marinade instead, alongside fresh vegetables, mushrooms, and a runny sunny side-up on top. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75657" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1.jpg 1365w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-215x300.jpg 215w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-732x1024.jpg 732w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-768x1074.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-1098x1536.jpg 1098w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-1170x1636.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-279x390.jpg 279w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-1-585x818.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1365px) 100vw, 1365px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>The beef was very well-marinated and very tender. I totally recommend leaving the rice to char for a while to get a nice crunchy and sweet scorched rice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The vegetables and mushrooms also add a nice crunch and flavour to the dish. Top it off with a slice of fresh kimchi and it’s simply perfection.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75664" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115.jpg 2048w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-300x185.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-1024x632.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-768x474.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-1536x947.jpg 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-1920x1184.jpg 1920w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-1170x722.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/DSC02115-585x361.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>Another dish that came highly recommended was the <strong>Japchae (S$12.80)</strong> and having tried it, I can see why it is so popular. The <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/annyeong-chicken-and-korean-bbq-geylang-east/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">japchae</a> is sweet and fragrant but a little bit on the peppery side. </p>

<p>It comes with pork but there’s also a <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/2-vegetarian-and-vegan-eats-singapore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">vegetarian</a> option for those who can’t take meat. The dish comes with a generous serving of carrots, capsicums, mushrooms, spinach, and onions. </p>

<p>I would have preferred it if it was a little less peppery, but the pepper does elevate the sweetness of the japchae sauce. It’s a great option for those looking to get a healthy and fuss-free meal.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75659" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik.jpg 1543w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-226x300.jpg 226w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-772x1024.jpg 772w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-768x1019.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-1157x1536.jpg 1157w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-1170x1553.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-294x390.jpg 294w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/nana-bunsik-585x776.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1543px) 100vw, 1543px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>I <em>love </em><a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/paiks-noodle-suntec/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">jjajangmyeon</a>, so of course I had to order it here. Nana Bunsik’s <strong>Jjajangmyeon (S$12.80) </strong>ticks all the right boxes. </p>

<p>Starting with the black bean sauce, it was <em>super </em>fragrant and a little on the sweeter side. There were also small bits of the black bean in the sauce which adds a nice texture to it.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75660" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4.jpg 1586w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-232x300.jpg 232w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-793x1024.jpg 793w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-768x992.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-1190x1536.jpg 1190w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-1170x1511.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-302x390.jpg 302w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-4-585x755.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1586px) 100vw, 1586px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>The dish came with a generous serving of sauce which coated every strand of <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/drim-korean-steak-house-orchard/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">noodles</a> perfectly. The sauce also elevated the flavours of the lean pork. </p>

<p>The only thing that was missing from this dish was the pickled radish to give it a nice crunch. This might be my new go-to spot for <em>jjajangmyeon</em> now — it’s really <em>that </em>good! </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75661" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5.jpg 1602w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-235x300.jpg 235w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-801x1024.jpg 801w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-768x982.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-1202x1536.jpg 1202w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-1170x1496.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-305x390.jpg 305w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-5-585x748.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1602px) 100vw, 1602px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>No trip to a Korean restaurant is complete without having some <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/futoru-kimbap-market-blue/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">kimbap</a> and we got the <strong>Spam Kimchi Kimbap (S$11.80)</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75662" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6.jpg 1680w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-246x300.jpg 246w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-840x1024.jpg 840w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-768x936.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-1260x1536.jpg 1260w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-1170x1426.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-320x390.jpg 320w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-6-585x713.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><figcaption>Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>The kimbap had a nice mix of ingredients, but it was a little on the saltier side. The radish and kimchi does help to balance out the flavours while also adding a nice crunch into the mix.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-75663" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8.jpg 2048w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-300x208.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-1024x709.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-768x532.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-1536x1064.jpg 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-1920x1329.jpg 1920w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-1170x810.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-563x390.jpg 563w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nana-8-585x405.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption> Photo by Confirm Good</figcaption></figure>

<p>Nana Bunsik also has a selection of classic stews like the <strong>Kimchi Stew (S$16.80)</strong>. The stew was fragrant and had a nice spice kick to it. The soup also elevated the sourness of the kimchi with the <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/bulgogi-syo-bugis/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">pork belly </a>adding a nice savouriness. It was the perfect remedy for a cold rainy day. </p>

<p>Speaking of kimchi, if you love their kimchi, you can order their fresh kimchi, radish kimchi or spring onion kimchi for takeaway — I’ll be back for the radish kimchi for sure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite only offering takeaway and delivery services, the cafe officially opened for dine-in last November, much to the delight of their regular customers.</p>

<p>Its homely, no-frills interior is reminiscent of the restaurants featured on the Japanese Netflix series <em>The Road to Red Restaurants List</em>. Oh, what I&#8217;d give to be like the character Suda, taking a road trip and visiting eateries off the beaten path. </p>

<p>Most of the <em>bentos </em>available are priced at a wallet-friendly S$11. Go for the <strong>Japanese Curry Set (S$11)</strong> or <strong>Japanese Beef Set (S$11)</strong>, all of which are served with an assortment of sides, like pickled vegetables, bamboo shoots, and fluffy potato salad.</p>

<p>An a la carte menu is also available &#8212; you can order a <strong><em>Keema </em>Curry (S$8)</strong> or <strong>Grilled Salmon (S$12)</strong>, for instance, without the rice and sides. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3.jpg" alt="mochi mochi cafe" class="wp-image-39490" width="800" height="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3.jpg 1440w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-300x300.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-150x150.jpg 150w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-768x768.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-70x70.jpg 70w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-1170x1170.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-390x390.jpg 390w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi3-585x585.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Photo: @samlivestoeat/instagram</figcaption></figure>

<p>You may be more familiar with the <em>tsukune </em>skewers served at <em>yakitori </em>and <em>kushiyaki</em> joints, but the <strong><em>Tori-Tsukune </em>(S$12)</strong> served here is a much healthier alternative. Think tender minced chicken and tofu patties with housemade <em>yakitori </em>sauce.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-39491" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5.jpg 824w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5-300x225.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5-768x576.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5-520x390.jpg 520w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/mochimochi5-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Photo: PS Goh/google images</figcaption></figure>

<p>Personally, I&#8217;d go for the more uncommon <strong><em>Tori-Namban</em> Set (S$12)</strong>. Instead of the typical fried chicken, Mochi Mochi Cafe&#8217;s version consists of stir-fried chicken topped with creamy egg tartar sauce. </p>

<p>The cafe has also recently launched a brand new udon menu, featuring rainy day must-haves from S$10++ like <strong>Beef Udon</strong> and <strong>Spicy Pork <em>Yasai </em>Udon</strong>.</p>

<p>Can&#8217;t dine in? Fret not, for takeaway and delivery orders can still be placed by calling <strong>+65 98629102</strong>.</p>

<p>In my opinion, there&#8217;s only one thing missing from the menu &#8212; actual mochi. </p>
