There’s an exciting line-up of halal street food, from classic snacks to new faces, so here’s the rundown of what to expect!

Like most pasar malams, you’ll find stuffed fried doughnuts, the viral Buldak egg noodles, and even Taiwan’s stinky tofu.

For savoury bites, check out the Ministry of Spud for hearty potatoes with toppings and sauces of your choice. 

Unless you’ve been following SpudBro’s journey to fame on TikTok, you might be clueless about spuds. Essentially, it’s a popular potato street food in the UK.

Al Papi’s is the spot to hit up for Beef Loaded Nachos (S$12) and Beef Birria Tacos (S$16 for 2 pieces).

Known for pushing the boundaries of traditional cuisine, MKuKing is here with their crowd-favourite Strip Loin Katok. 

Or, get Charcoal Roti John at JohnGoat’s booth. While the owner’s pick is the Pulled Beef (S$19.90), there are also fillings such as seafood, spicy Korean chicken, and shredded chicken. 

Everybody needs a sweet treat every once in a while, so here’s what to look forward to.

Famous Mini Pancake is back in town, so choose from toppings such as Bounty Coconut (S$6), Red Velvet (S$8), Tiramisu (S$9), and Ferrero Rocher (S$12).

For crunchy banana fritters, visit The Original Pisang Keju. They’re available at S$6 for six pieces, or S$12 for 12 pieces.

You can run, but you can’t hide from the matcha craze, because the new matcha brand Gotcha Matcha is here with the viral Banana Pudding Matcha (S$8 for Regular, S$9 for Large).

Try the Blueberry Matcha Latte (S$7 for Regular, S$8 for Large) or Coconut Matcha Cloud (S$7.50 for Regular, S$8.50 for Large). 

The popular 1Litre by Perghh is also back with their iconic one-litre drinks, including Thai Milk Tea (S$5), Purple Lion Paddlepop (S$5) and Chocolate Mint (S$6).

Hole-y Crocs has edible Crocs (yes, you heard me right). Their Crocs-shaped mini waffles come in flavours such as Cream Cheese Oreo (S$10), PistaCrush (S$12), and Biscoff Bites (S$12).

After you’ve had your fill, don’t forget to check out the arcade and Uncle Ringo rides, including claw machines, balloon darts, and a mini Viking ride.

If you’re a Tampines resident, you’ve probably chanced upon this by now — a bustling food fair next to Tampines MRT station.

This massive bazaar will be running till from now till 15 September 2024, so you have plenty of time to visit for your fill of street food.

You’ll be able to spot many of your favourite stalls (including new vendors) selling both traditional and modern bazaar fare like Thai fried banana, sweet potato balls, biryani, cempadak goreng, kebab manis, apam balik, rosti, sticky milk, and so much more.

Yes, there’ll be plenty of kunafa (the current talk of the town) options to choose from.

You can get your fix at stalls like Noah Bazaar, where you’ll find authentic Middle Eastern cheese-filled kunafa, as well as Nekmah Dessert, best known for their trendy kunafa ice cream “sandwiches” and layered desserts.

Got a raging sweet tooth? Hit up Famous Mini Pancake, a popular vendor from Indonesia, for mini pancakes slathered in sauces like matcha, cookies & cream, and Nutella.

If you’re a sucker for anything spicy, there’s a stall specialising in Korean Spicy Egg Roll Noodles (S$6), which features the beloved Samyang fire noodles with cheese and a chicken sausage.

Like most food fairs, you can find a dedicated retail area, alongside an array of carnival rides like this inflatable Rodeo Bull.

The best part? There’ll be no need for snacking and sweating as the food fair will feature an air-conditioned dining area for the first time ever. Coupled with live band performances, you’re all set for an extra comfy experience!

This mega pasar malam that takes place only once a year has finally returned, and it’ll be held next to Yishun MRT station from now till 7 July 2024.

With 90 food stalls selling an extensive variety of street food from all around the world, including halal and Muslim-owned options, you’re probably gonna be spoilt for choice!

Keep a lookout for trendy food items like rainbow roll cakes, heart-shaped fried ice cream, XXL fried squid, TikTok-viral pani puri, colourful jelly balls, Hokkaido “sticky milk” desserts, spicy pratadogs, fist-sized bakso (Indonesian meatballs), and even roasted durian topped with cheese.

Otherwise, you can count on a pasar malam as big as this to have the usual suspects — think traditional snacks like vadai, shawarma, muah chee, kueh tutu, otak otak, Ramly-style burgers, tauhu bergedil, and lekor.

This also includes the likes of pasar malam fare that have become staples in recent years, like assorted grilled seafood, Thai fried banana, tanghulu, Japanese-inspired taiyaki, and filled bomboloni.

Fans of Taiwanese fare are in luck, as they’ll be able to get their fix of sweet potato balls, oyster mee sua, stinky tofu, peanut ice cream popiah, fried milk, mentaiko chicken chop, and egg pancakes.

The same goes for those who go gaga over Korean street eats like loaded cream waffles, cheesy corn dogs, lemon chicken, hotteok, and tteokbokki-sausage skewers.

Once you’ve got the goods, you’ll have plenty of seating (complete with fairy lights) to choose from, so don’t afraid to head down with the entire family! In fact, weekends bring even better vibes, with the addition of live music and busking performances.

After all that grub, why not take a stroll through the retail area or try your hand at one of the many carnival, VR, and arcade games available?

There are also plenty of fun rides that’ll keep the kiddos occupied, including spinning teacups, mini water boats, robotic cars, and a bouncy castle.

Enter Woodlands MRT Food Street, a food bazaar that’ll be taking place from now all the way till 30 June 2024, making it one of the biggest and longest-running bazaars of the month.

It’s conveniently located at Woodlands MRT station (outside Causeway Point), so you definitely won’t miss it!

As with most bazaars and night markets in Singapore, you can expect stalls peddling a dizzying array of street food from all around the world, including the likes of traditional favourites like vadai, shawarma, fried oyster cakes, Ramly-style burgers, and stinky tofu.

We forese most visitors making a beeline for ever-so-popular Thai street eats like moo ping, fried banana, and mango sticky rice.

Fans of Taiwanese fare will also be able to get their fix of sweet potato balls, oyster mee sua, braised snacks, peanut ice cream popiah, and even fried milk.

Of course, no food bazaar is complete without sweet treats like Japanese-inspired taiyaki, tanghulu, Thai milk tea, kunafe, and pisang keju.

Don’t miss out on a visit to K-Waffle for their Korean-style cream waffles in flavours like Nutella Strawberry, Lotus Biscoff, and Mango Puree.

Also, keep an eye out for exciting halal and Muslim-owned options like cheesy grilled seafood from Satay Kakpah; loaded jacket potato from The Spud Guy; bamboo biryani from Adura’s Kitchen; and lekor and durian goreng from BO-GEH, just to name a few.

The Taiwan Night Market at Waterway Point is taking place from now until 12 May 2024, featuring over 10 stalls ranging from local favourites to uniquely Taiwanese treats and so much more! 

Some stalls you can look forward to include fluffy souffle pancakes, ice cream rolls, Taiwan fried egg pancake and hotplate prawn paste amongst others. Unfortunately there will not be any stinky tofu — sorry to all the stinky tofu lovers. 

What is Taiwan best known for apart from bubble tea? Crispy XXL chicken cutlet, and of course there is a booth here that sells just that. There’s even different flavours like sesame, honey glazed chicken cutlet, and salted crispy chicken. Prices for these start from S$5.50. 

Barbecued king oyster mushrooms have pretty much become quite the staple at any night market in Singapore, and since this one is a Taiwanese-themed night market, of course you can find this quintessential Taiwanese snack here too. As someone who doesn’t exactly love king oyster mushrooms, this one is growing on me. 

You can also expect to find some uniquely Taiwanese treats here like the mochi with creamy cheese sauce. You can choose from flavours ranging from black sesame, purple sweet potato, oreo and more. Prices start from S$6 for four pieces. 

Make sure to stop by Bung! Lemon Tea for some refreshing hand smashed lemon tea drinks. Fun fact: all the drinks are made fresh to order and contain bitter gourd bits. But, don’t worry, you won’t be able to taste the bitter gourd unless you eat the bits. Sounds intriguing. 

There’s also live music from local buskers like Jeff Ng and Cloud & Party taking place on 10 and 11 May at 7pm. Make sure to save the date if you wanna catch them singing live! 

This Taiwan night market couldn’t come at a better time, especially since I’ve been itching to go! But alas, since that won’t be happening anytime soon, at least I can take comfort in these street snacks for now.

If you’re a Tampines resident, you’ve probably seen this by now — the return of the biggest pasar malam in Tampines, the Tampines Night Bazaar.

This highly-anticipated bazaar will be running till the end of the month (30 November 2023), so you have plenty of time to visit for your fill of street food.

According to a post by I Love Tampines, the bazaar, which is located right next to Tampines MRT Station, has wider walkways between stalls and more outdoors seats available, as compared to previous editions, making the entire space less warm and more airy.

You’ll be able to spot many of your favourite stalls selling both traditional and modern street eats like Ramly burgers, vadai, Japanese pizza (okonomiyaki), grilled seafood, Thai moo ping, sweet potato balls, and so much more.

New to this year’s bazaar is Korean pizza chain GOPIZZA, which has rolled out two event-exclusive pizzas, Nacho Chicken, and Cheongyang Pepperoni, alongside street food like tteokbokki and corndogs.

You’ll probably see long lines like the popular Chub Tutu, best known for their unique kueh tutu flavours like Durian, Butterfly Pea, Chilli Crab, Salted Egg Custard, and Mentaiko, just to name a few.

If you’re a rosti lover, look no further than Spuds Shack for their crispy rosti creations with Spicy Mala, Garlic Parmesan, and Truffle Aioli.

Other highlights include the likes of vegetarian-friendly stinky tofu with garlic chilli sauce from Man Kou Xiang Stinky Tofu, tahu bergedil and sushi bake from Nak Tahu Tak, and egg rolls from Super Pancake.

Naturally, there are tons of dessert options to choose from, including the crowd favourite flavoured churros from Loco Loco and kaya balls from Pancake Stop.

Can’t make it to Tampines? You can check up the ongoing pasar malam at Bedok 85 taking place till 12 November. Do also keep an eye out for an upcoming bazaar at Sengkang MRT (18 November–3 December)!

If you’re an Eastie that frequents Bedok 85 for supper (hello, bak chor mee), you now have another reason to head down, as the Pasar Malam Fiesta will be taking place from now till 12 November 2023.

Taking place along 85 Bedok North Street 4 next to the food centre, this massive bazaar features over 30 different food stalls, enticing deals, arcade games, and even entertainment, so you can expect good food and good vibes!

As with most bazaars, most tend to head straight for popular items like grilled seafood, Taiwan peanut ice cream popiah, sweet potato balls, takoyaki, XXL chicken chop, and so much more, inclusive of halal and Muslim-owned options.

Highlights include Japanese-style taiyaki in fun flavours like taro, strawberry, and Thai tea; honeycomb waffle bowl ice cream; and the unique roast chicken skeleton, a specialty snack from China.

And of course, no pasar malam is complete without staples like Ramly burgers, vadai, twister potato, keropok lekor, Thai milk tea, kebabs, tauhu bergedil, stinky tofu, and otak otak.

One of the vendors, AS Family Satay, is having a 40 cent satay promotion, limited to 700 sticks daily from 3pm (max. 20 sticks per person), so you can look forward to a sizzlin’ satay feast, if you manage to head down in time, that is.

A mini stage has also been set up, so you can expect to be entertained by live music performances every single day, which keeps things extra festive.

Of course, no night market, pasar malam, or bazaar in Singapore is complete without the ever-so-popular street eats from Thailand and Taiwan, so feel free to go all out on your favourite moo ping, phad thai, luk choop (Thai sweets), XXL chicken chop, oyster mee sua, fried enoki — the list is endless!

There are also a couple of noteworthy stalls selling trendy eats like Taiwanese Peanut Ice Cream Popiah (S$4) with ice cream flavours like yam and coconut.

You’ll even spot another stall selling Chinese-style BBQ seafood and fried ice cream. Yes, fried ice cream.

Rosti lovers are in luck, as they’ll get to enjoy loaded rosti and the recently viral “spaceship” or UFO burgers from Rosti Haus (they’re also available at the bustling Jurong Point Food Feastival, for all you Westies).

Another slightly more unique offering can be found at Pang Xiong Mei, a stall dishing out Fire Chicken Noodle Wraps, or Samyang fire noodles wrapped in rice paper, with optional add-ons like cheese, egg, and hotdog.

After eating your fill, you can unleash your inner bargain hunter at the retail stalls, pick up a couple of durians for dessert, or try your hand at a carnival game or two.

If you’re visiting with kids, why not let them have a go at the mini amusement park rides or claw machines? There’s always a way to have a bit of fun at a pasar malam.

We’re all well familiar with claw machines being stocked with plushies, toys, and even electronics, but durians? That’s a first, so you best bet we had to take a look. These claw machines have been spotted at the pasar malams in Choa Chu Kang and Toa Payoh. They combine some of our favourite things — durian, pasar malams, claw machines, and a great deal.  

Indeed, the machines were stocked with little durian fruits — yes, it is the real fruit. Tokens for the claw machines are priced at S$2 for 2 tokens, S$5 for 5 tokens, S$10 for 12 tokens, and S$50 for 70 tokens. But of course, there are other machines filled with plushies around for you to spend your tokens on too. 

The fruits are packed differently in each machine, some are piled atop plastic balls, while others have the fruit sitting in between poles — they might look easy to catch but it’s quite the opposite. But, with some help and maybe good judgement, you might just be able to score yourself a fruit. There were people who managed to win as many as 5 fruits — albeit after several attempts that is. 

Each go at the machines costs only 1 token, which means if you succeed on your first try, you would have won your durian at just S$1 — what a steal! But of course, for the price you’re paying, you definitely won’t be getting any premium quality Mao Shan Wang, Golden Phoenix or Black Gold durian. Nonetheless, it’s still a pretty good deal. 

The claw machines can currently be found at the pasar malams in Choa Chu Kang (near Lot One) and Toa Payoh Centre Courts now until 11 June, so hurry down before it’s all gone! You can also find them at Play United outlets in Hougang Mall and Tampines 1.

From 15 March 2023 to 16 April 2023, visitors can expect to indulge in both traditional and trendy foods, shop for handmade crafts, and even witness aerial light shows!

This isn’t your average night market — instead of a huge tentage with everything crammed into one place, the stalls are spread across the entire area with ample space in between. Plus, the streets of Kampong Gelam are such a vibe with the fairy lights all around (main character moment, anyone?). 

As with every festival, one of the main things we look forward to is good food. With up to 86 food stalls with a mix of vibrant food trucks and outdoor grills serving up various Singaporean favourites, you can defo expect to be spoilt for choice. 

You’ll find pasar malam staples like Ramly burgers, kebabs, tornado potatoes, and of course, Thai milk tea. However, what caught our eye was the large variety of contemporary Muslim-friendly food options — think fusion cuisine, smoked meats, philly cheesesteaks, and more. 

Fans of Japanese cuisine, look no further than Detako for baked sushi and takoyaki. We opted for the Mentaiko Hotate (S$15) sushi baked, comprising Japanese pearl rice topped with cooked scallops and a rich mentaiko sauce.

Craving for some beef? Head over to Meat My Meat to try their popular Philly Cheesesteak for just S$9.90, or get Picanhas’ Steak & Mash (S$18) that comes with 100g of steak, garlic mash, and savoury meringue.

We also tried Big Paw Paws’ Smoked Beef Brisket (S$16/100g), which had been smoked for a whopping 11 to 16 hours. The flavour had defo penetrated into the brisket and had a good balance of meat to fats, but it ended up being a little less juicy than expected. 

If you’ve heard of The Secret Garden by Zeekri, you might be familiar with their fusion cuisine.

Their stall focuses on halal Korean-fusion cuisine, so you can expect to find spaghetti Jjajangmyeon (S$10) and Tteokbokki (from S$10) that has seaweed chicken, cheese tofu and more. 

Feeling thirsty after all that good food? Choose from iced teas, sugarcane, and more. Interesting options include Charcoal Matcha (S$5.50) and Masala Milk Tea (S$6) from popular drink stall Broti!

There are no shortage of options when it comes to dessert as well. From goreng pisang to ice cream, there’s definitely something for everyone!

Get Biscoff Poffertjes (Dutch baby pancakes, S$6.50) from Alley, or Cendol Coconut Ice Cream from IIceage (S$10). Either way, you’re bound to have the perfect sweet treat to end off your meal. 

With ample outdoor seating available, you won’t have to worry about not being able to find a table to enjoy your food.

There’s even a two-storey mezzanine that’s oh-so-pretty — perfect for people-watching with your boo or to chat with your friends. (Hint: if you’re there on a hot day, be sure to get a seat at the indoor air-conditioned tent!)

Feel like splurging? You’ll be delighted to find a myriad of handmade crafts, the cutest knick-knacks and even clothes from 23 retail booths. These stalls are manned by independent artists, so it’s the perfect time to #supportlocal.

Don’t miss one of the main highlights of this year’s bazaar — incredible light projections on the iconic Masjid Sultan (Fri to Sun only). If you visit on Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll also be able to witness drone-controlled LED kites in action. Talk about an unforgettable spectacle!

Of course, no celebration is complete without entertainment. The mainstage will feature live music performances with a roster of singers, traditional and modern dances — the perfect accompaniment to your visit. 

One Kampong Gelam will also be holding a Mass Iftar on 1 April 2023 along Arab Street, where you can purchase tables in advance for your own Iftar or pay-it-forward for beneficiaries of the Mosque Sultan Community Chest and Jalan Besar GRC. In the spirit of giving, you can also head down to charity drive at the bazaar from 7 to 16 April (4 – 8pm) to donate pre-loved clothes, non-perishable foods, and home essentials. 

With such good vibes all around, this year’s Kampong Gelam Bazaar is certainly one of the best places to celebrate the festive season!
