Thank goodness for Ginger.Lily’s newly launched afternoon tea concept, The Orchard Trail Experience. I’ve never been one to spend a hefty sum on afternoon tea, but I was left feeling extremely satisfied with both the food and presentation here.

The Orchard Trail Experience (S$58++ per person with free-flow coffee and tea, with a minimum of two persons) is an elevated afternoon tea experience that will whisk guests away on a four-part journey through savoury, sweet, thirst, and take me home, all while exploring the colonial and plantation past of Orchard Road.

Savoury

The warm savouries and finger sandwiches served put a local spin on the mainstays of a British afternoon tea. You’ll get to munch on a Salted Crusted Pork Bun (like bolo bun), Grilled Sandwich with Cheese & Organic Spinach, Mini Lobster Roll, and my personal favourites, the uber juicy Smoked Beef Burger and Iberico Ham Crostini.

Sweet

Moving on to the selection of sweets, dessert creations imbued with spices and flora are served in an enchanting dessert drawer fashioned into a storybook. My top two? The Spiced Apple Tatin and Tutti Frutti Tea Cake.

Although all the handcrafted confections were stunning in presentation, I did find some of them, like the decadent Valrhona 46% Amatika Chocolate Cake, Pink Peppercorn Cherry Macarons, and Blue Hibiscus Bar, to be a tad too sweet for my liking.

How can one forget the quintessential British teatime treat? The Vanilla Madagascar and Golden Raisins scones here are served warm, alongside clotted cream, cinnamon chocolate ganache, and an excellent homemade Ginger.Lily jam.

Thirst

Out of the 10 premium tea varieties, we highly recommend The Ginger.Lily house blend, a specially curated green tea with goji berries, mild florals, and exotic fruits, as well as Sang Nila’s Lion-C Tea, a blend of black tea, dreamy florals, and tropical fruits with a touch of lemon peel. You can also supplement your afternoon tea with a glass of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut Champagne (top up S$20++ per person) — we say go for it because wine not?

Guests will also leave with a takeaway confection — a surprise petite token made especially for afternoon tea so that you can enjoy the Ginger.Lily experience at home.

From 6 to 8 May 2022 in celebration of Mother’s Day, all mothers will receive a complimentary botanical-inspired cocktail (limited to one redemption per table). There’s no better time to treat mum (or the maternal figure in your life) to an afternoon of wining and dining.
