They say that our hair is our second face — it can either make or break your entire appearance, and it definitely affects how others see you. More often than not, we’d probably perceive that someone with lush and voluminous hair is more put together and well-groomed than someone with greasy and limp hair dusted full of dandruff.
And that’s exactly what made me feel so self-conscious for years. As someone with an extremely dry and irritable scalp due to years of bleaching my hair, dyeing, and using the wrong shampoo I perpetually always had pieces of those pesky white dandruff flakes in my hair, on my clothes — and even on my pillows.
Coupled with weak hair thanks to the hair fall problems that also accompanied my scalp issues, my hair quickly became one of my biggest insecurities — and it should be the complete opposite! Our hair is supposed to be something that enhances our appearance, not dull it down!
When the New Year rolled around, one of my resolutions was to be more confident in my own skin and to take care of myself more — and I was going to start with the one thing that had been gnawing at my self-esteem the most: my hair. So, after some research and deliberating, and with an enticing promotion in mind, I made an appointment to head down to one of the most trusted hair and scalp care centres in Singapore — TK Trichokare.
As I stepped into the centre for my appointment, I was pretty nervous as I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the calming ambience and friendly staff immediately made me feel comfortable. I was ushered into the private consultation room to fill up a questionnaire to help the experts better understand my lifestyle, diet and the condition of my hair (even down to the type of shampoo that I use!).
Then, came the first part of the hair treatment — the scalp analysis. Here, the trichologist used a lens called Tricho-Scan which magnified my scalp (up to 200 times) in order to understand its condition so as to recommend the best treatment, and boy, was it bad.
Other than a build-up of flaky dead skin (dandruff!), it was also red, irritated and sensitive — partially due to the extreme dryness and accumulating dandruff.
With those results, the specialist recommended their Scalp Purifying Therapy treatment and they got right to work.
I sat in a chair reminiscent of the ones in a stylish hair salon, and was served a nice cup of apple tea while I waited for them to prepare for the treatment.
Starting off, they removed all the impurities built up all over my scalp through a suction device. It felt so satisfying — almost like popping pimples.
The trichologist applied Trichokare’s signature European Herbal Scalp Masque made up of Premium European Herbs — totally customised to my scalp condition. This masque helped to clean out impurities, detox my scalp and remove excess sebum. It was so cooling and comfortable that I almost drifted off to sleep with the ambient music playing in the background.
Next up, rather than just applying it directly, an essence was sprayed onto my scalp and this made sure that the essence penetrated my pores well to sufficiently hydrate my scalp. It felt minty, and it was really soothing as well.
After that was done, it was time for a wash. Honestly, this might be my favourite part. Other than just washing my hair, the trichologist also took care to apply the CompleteKare mask (conditioner) at the end of the process and gave my scalp a good invigorating massage. It almost felt like I was in a spa!
Finally, my hair was blow-dried, followed by Photodynamic Therapy, which involved a super cool-looking infrared light that supports hair regeneration and targets specific areas of the scalp — it essentially helps with speeding up the healing process.
By this time, my hair and scalp were already feeling super soft, light and clean.
During the final scalp analysis to see the effects of the treatment, I was really surprised and pleased to see that my scalp was visibly less red, and all the dandruff shown in the magnified scalp scan were gone.
I could feel that my scalp was thoroughly cleansed and rejuvenated after the entire treatment and to top it off, it felt so much more hydrated with barely any signs of dryness. The trichologist did advise me to continue regular treatments and to also use the right shampoo moving forward, for long-term maintenance and optimal scalp health.
But that’s not all — this Scalp Purifying Therapy treatment was just S$40 nett! Thanks to the current promotion that TK Trichokare is giving out exclusively for the month of November. As part of the deal, besides the free HairGro Ampoule that was applied on to my scalp during the treatment, I also got to take home a free Nourishing Hair Bath and CompleteKare mask which I will be using regularly as advised by their friendly consultant. All these for the total value of S$40 only (usually priced at S$770)!
I’ll be sure to recommend my friends and tell them to get to it quickly — after all, this enticing offer will only last from now till 31 December 2023!
If you’re like me and also in dire need of some hair-saving and a therapeutic me-day, definitely head down to TK Trichokare and try it out yourself!
