<p>Want to end 2022 on a magical note by wishing on a shooting star? The<strong> Geminids meteor shower</strong> is happening from <strong>14 to 16 December 2022</strong> – and here’s where to catch it.</p>

<p>Meteor showers, or shooting stars as they’re called, happen a few times a year, with the Perseids, Orionids, and Geminids being some of the most prominent ones. Geminids is the <strong>last meteor shower of the year</strong>, so if you’ve ever wanted to see one for yourself, now’s your chance.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53950" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n.jpg 1440w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-768x512.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-391x260.jpg 391w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-585x390.jpg 585w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/270297289_471782291028805_1738018063273756812_n-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /><figcaption>Photo: @jk_astrophotos/instagram</figcaption></figure>

<p>The meteor shower will<strong> peak on 14 December</strong>, and it’s best to view it between <strong>9pm to 12am</strong>. Go before moonrise at 12am to get an optimal view, as you’ll see less meteors once the waning gibbous moon (a three-quarters full moon) comes up.</p>

<p>You don’t need a telescope to view this meteor shower, but if you have one, that’ll definitely give you an added bonus. Grab a picnic mat, get comfortable, and let your eyes get accustomed to the dark for optimal viewing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Picking a darker spot to view the meteor shower will let you see more of it, and here are five <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/science-centre-observatory/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">stargazing </a>spots you can view the Geminids at:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-pulau-ubin"><strong>1. Pulau Ubin</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53951" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn.jpg 2048w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-300x212.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-1024x724.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-768x543.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-1536x1086.jpg 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-1920x1358.jpg 1920w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-1170x827.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-552x390.jpg 552w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pesta-ubinn-585x414.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption>Photo: Pesta Ubin/facebook</figcaption></figure>

<p>A nature getaway from the city lights, <strong>Pulau Ubin</strong> is a great place for stargazing with its many campsites and unobstructed views of the sky. The best part is, you can camp overnight too, though the last ferry will leave at 6pm, so you’ll have to go during the day (or afternoon) at Pulau Ubin and spend the night there.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Yishun Dam</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53976" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss.jpg 950w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss-300x200.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss-768x513.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss-391x260.jpg 391w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss-585x390.jpg 585w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/gemindss-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption>Photo: NASA</figcaption></figure>

<p>This scenic stretch of rock and pavement facing the sea at <strong>Yishun Dam</strong> is a great place to watch the meteor shower. You can sit on the rocks and look up at the stars, or lay your picnic mat on the sand and wish on a shooting star or two.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Springleaf Nature Park</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53989" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n.jpg 1440w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-240x300.jpg 240w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-768x960.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-1170x1463.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-312x390.jpg 312w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/119948791_444380853200883_8501343944414056698_n-585x731.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /><figcaption>Photo: @jmarki82/instagram</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>One of the most popular spots for astronomy groups, <strong>Springleaf Nature Park</strong> is one of the least light-polluted spots in Singapore – you can even see the Milky Way from here, so it’s an optimal spot to view the Geminids.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Lorong Halus Bridge</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53979" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440.jpg 1440w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440-300x146.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440-768x373.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440-1170x569.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/120520_geminids_feat_opt1_1440-585x284.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /><figcaption>Photo: Walter Pacholka, Astropics/Science Source</figcaption></figure>

<p>There’s a pretty bridge in <strong>Lorong Halus</strong>, a secluded spot in Punggol that offers great views of the night sky. You can lie on the bridge and point out the stars, making it a great spot to watch the shower from.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5. Changi Bay Point</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53985" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1.jpg 1440w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-240x300.jpg 240w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-768x960.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-1170x1463.jpg 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-312x390.jpg 312w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/296012546_112357674799670_3618805164174019542_n-1-585x731.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /><figcaption>Photo: @sundae_the_dog/instagram</figcaption></figure>

<p>A scenic coastal area perfect for watching the sky, sea, and everything in between, <strong><a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/travel-inspired-places-to-travel-within-singapore/">Changi B</a><a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/travel-inspired-places-to-travel-within-singapore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a</a><a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/travel-inspired-places-to-travel-within-singapore/">y Point</a></strong> offers a boardwalk with a deck you can view the night sky from, perfect for viewing the meteor shower in comfort.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>6. TASOS</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="960" height="720" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-53983" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR.jpg 960w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR-300x225.jpg 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR-768x576.jpg 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR-520x390.jpg 520w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/PRETTYSTAR-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption>Photo: TASOS/facebook</figcaption></figure></div>

<p><strong>TASOS</strong>, or The Astronomical Society of Singapore, hosts <strong>stargazing sessions</strong>, with an upcoming session taking place on<strong> Friday, 16 December 2022 from 8 to 10pm </strong>(weather permitting). The group will be hosting the viewing session at Labrador Park, where you can view both Mars (<em>yes, the planet</em>) and the Geminids. Though the meteor shower will be past its peak, it’s still a good opportunity to mingle with other like-minded astronomers and make some new friends !</p>

<p>It’s time to make a wish upon a star, and who knows, maybe it just might come true.</p>

<p>There are only two public observatories in Singapore, the <a href="https://confirmgood.com/post/science-centre-observatory/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Science Centre Observatory</a> and the Woodlands CC Galaxy Observatory. Today, on <strong>7 October 2022</strong>, the <strong>Woodlands Galaxy CC Observatory</strong> is finally reopening after a two-year closure since the pandemic!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior.png" alt="Woodlands CC Galaxy Observatory" class="wp-image-50076" width="800" srcset="https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior.png 1754w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-300x169.png 300w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-1024x577.png 1024w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-768x433.png 768w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-1536x865.png 1536w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-1170x659.png 1170w, https://confirmgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/woodlands-cc-exterior-585x330.png 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1754px) 100vw, 1754px" /><figcaption>Photo: @lingopi/google images</figcaption></figure>

<p>While the observatory’s opening is just one day off from the <strong>Draconids Meteor Shower </strong>happening on <strong>8 October</strong>, eagle-eyed astronomy enthusiasts can catch the meteor shower in the sky. But don’t fret, as the Observatory&#8217;s reopening is also just in time for their <strong>annual Geminids Meteor Shower viewing party and overnight event </strong>(<em>we’re not sure if they’re having an overnight event this year, but we’re looking forward to the viewing!</em>).&nbsp;</p>

<p>For just <strong>S$1</strong>, visitors can access the Observatory located on the CC’s rooftop, which offers unparalleled views of the night sky. Their <strong>Takahashi Sky 90 telescopes</strong> are easy to use for beginner astronomers, and are great for astrophotography! The large, dome-shaped observatory gives you a <strong>360° view of the night sky</strong>, and makes for a great photo spot to spice up your feed.</p>

<p>The observatory also hosts occasional<strong> free guest astronomy lectures</strong>, in addition to seasonal events and eclipse viewings – so just check their socials to find out if they’ll be hosting a viewing for the upcoming blood moon and total solar eclipse on Nov 8!</p>
