One of the newer additions to the exciting F&B line-up in SMU is Smoff, a dessert kiosk that prides themselves as being the first in Singapore to sell Smoffles, fish-shaped mochi waffles (taiyaki) topped with soft serve.

The ordering process is fairly simple for those who want to try the signature Smoffle (S$5.90), which is entirely customisable. Start off by choosing the filling you’d like in your Moffle (mochi waffle), which include the likes of Taro, Ovaltine, and Spiced Banana.

Afterwards, choose your soft serve, which come in seasonal flavours like Ube, Red Velvet, and Cotton Candy. There’s even an Acai (+S$1) flavour that’s vegan and dairy-free.

The best part? You’ll get to add unlimited toppings to your Smoffle, so feel free to request for all the sprinkles, fruity pebbles, and biscoff crumbles you want!

Feel free to also order just a Moffle (from S$6 for two) or a cup of Soft Serve (S$4.90) if you’re not up for the Smoffle.

We got to try some of the sweet Moffles, which can also be customised, namely the Ichigo Daifuku from the menu, and our very own creation of Nutella and Spiced Banana. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the former as it had a distinct strawberry flavour that tasted rather artificial.

The waffles, which are all freshly prepared to order, were crisp and fragrant, but we would’ve liked for them to have more of a chewy or stretchy mochi-like texture.

As for the Smoffles, we got a Taro Moffle with a mix of Ube and Cotton Candy soft serve. Taro lovers are in for a treat, as the taro filling (inclusive of soft chunks of yam) was dense, earthy, and not too sweet. It’s also prepared in-house, so you’re getting the real good stuff.

We also enjoyed the surprisingly well-balanced combination of a Spiced Banana Moffle with Red Velvet soft serve. Of course it also helps that it tasted very festive.

Don’t have a sweet tooth? There are Savoury Moffle options like the S.E.C (S$4.50), comprising sausage, cheese, lettuce, and scrambled eggs — flavours reminscent of the Sausage McGriddles. It was a lot more filling than it looked, so we can totally see SMU students popping by Smoff for a quick breakfast before class.

All things considered, Smoff is a great concept for those seeking a sweet (or savoury) treat that won’t break the bank. It’s also hard to go wrong with customisable options, because it’s always fun to get creative and concoct the dessert of your dreams!

We can’t wait to see what other Moffle and soft serve flavours Smoff launches in the future, but in the meantime, will you be swinging by SMU for a fish-shaped treat or two?
