Thanks to a more open-minded society (yes, progresss), tattoos nowadays do not come with negative associations and have become a highly sought after way of expressing one’s self and keeping what’s meaningful close to us forever. (There have even been people who got their grandparents to draw something and then had it inked on!)
Just like how there are nuances in all of our lives and experiences, there is also a vast variety of different tattoo styles. More specifically, I’ve always wanted to travel to South Korea for their dainty fine line and water-coloured inks, but the language barrier and cost of travel have always held me back. After all, I want to be able to communicate thoroughly with the tattoo artist about something that’s going to be on my skin for years to come.
If you’ve always appreciated this particular style of tattoo too, you’ll be delighted to know that a handful of up and coming tattoo artists in Singapore have adopted the distinct fine line-styled tattoos with a vibrant kaleidoscope of watercolours incorporated into their inks.
To help you enshrine your most precious memories and thoughts or even random art you like onto your skin, here are 11 tattoo artists in Singapore providing dainty fine line, Korean-styled watercolour and innovative tattoos you should check out.
1. letterbefore.n
Probably one of the most versatile tattoo artists in Singapore, @letterbefore.n does gorgeous pieces of fine line tattoos ranging from cute froggos to intricate floral designs.
Minimalistic tattoo designs with a pop of Korean watercolour have also been very popular recently, and you can find some serious inspiration while browsing through her previous work. Plus, you get to enjoy the adorable posts and videos of her Pomeranians too.
2. motus.ink
@motus.ink’s tattoos are the epitome of ‘less is more. If you’re opting for something more timeless and minimalist, you should really check her portfolio out. Her page is filled with pieces that are subtle yet entrancing, and she also does designs that are delicate and detailed too.
I don’t know how artists manage to manipulate simple fine lines into such works of art, but I do know that this is where I’ll be looking for my next ink-spiration.
3. thamjerene
Going onto @thamjerene’s Instagram page, you’ll see a myriad of colourful photorealistic inks like flowers, sceneries and my favourite of all — everyone’s furkids.
Her inks are uber meticulous, and you’ll be impressed to see that she manages to immortalise anything that’s meaningful to you on your skin down to the very last detail. It almost looks like it’s been printed onto your skin instead of being tattooed on.
4. rreikemon
@rreikemon’s tattoos give me some serious Junji Ito vibes. I don’t know what it is about it, but browsing through her work makes me want a really sick ink of Tomie.
If you’re looking to be bound to something different this time around, you can seriously consider consulting her for her artistic and elegant shibari-themed inks.
Many also entrust their bodies to her for floral embroidery styled tattoos (mostly on the chest) so if you’re looking to spruce up your temple, definitely check her out.
5. krnch.tattoo
Let your favourite anime character, place and even movie scene be a part of you forever by getting them tattooed on by @krnch.tattoo (and don’t worry, they won’t end up looking like a pasar malam version at all).
Like all the tattoo artists on this list, you can approach them with any design that you like (even your own), and they can even stylise some of your life’s most meaningful moments like a grandparent’s birthday or graduation into a simple and elegant tattoo.
6. inkorii
For those who are looking for darker lines that still look refined, you should probably consider checking @inkorii’s Instagram page out.
She has a knack for making even the most complicated designs look immaculate, and that says a lot about the craftsmanship of the artist. An arm sleeve of your favourite manga page anyone?
7. vivpokes
Quotes are one of the most classic tattoo ideas, so why not switch it up with @vivpokes? One of the styles that stand out the most on her page are her beautiful Chinese quotes and surname stamps.
That being said, if you’re more into English quotes or other designs like doodle-styled pokes (I love the chonky manekineko she featured!), you shouldn’t give this place a miss either.
8. hanji.ttt
@hanji.ttt has some really cute and quirky designs that I wish were telegram stickers. She has many unique designs of her own but what really caught my eye was how she managed to add dimension to 2D characters like Kakao’s Ryan.
If you’re looking to jazz up your favourite cartoon character, definitely check her out. Needless to say, her manipulation of Korean watercolour styled tattoos are also immaculate.
9. clamaresix
The majority of @clamaresix’s tattoo designs almost give the feeling of a cross between manga and Tim Burton characters. His signature seems to be a chonky cat in various forms from chillin’ cute to being on fantastical adventures and it’s just so cute it’s to die for.
Though the design of the characters looks simple, the skills of the tattoo artist really shine when he adds a bit of zing to the piece with intricate backgrounds and details.
10. e.llocia
Turn your body into the world’s most beautiful sticker book with @e.llocia’s colourful and darling inks. From dainty flowers to celestial looking galaxies and even quirky local designs like kueh, you can turn them all into permanent prints on your body.
The colours used are also really vibrant without looking too over the top so that’s a plus. That’s the beauty of Korean watercolour styled inks.
11. goodgalgloglo
If you’re the type to seek beauty in imperfections, @goodgalgloglo offers adorable hand-poked tattoos with a very homely and nostalgic touch—they almost look as if they’ve been drawn on with crayolas on your skin.
That’s not all—the tattoo artist also dabbles in UV tattoos for you to look extra lit on your next night out.
That concludes the list of 11 tattoo artists in Singapore for some of the sickest (and still dainty and clean) fine line and Korean watercolour tattoos.
Writing this article is definitely making me itch to get inked ASAP as well so book your slots before it’s all taken up.
