Trust in the National Library Board (NLB) to just know what we nerds want — a continuation of the popular pop-up Manga Library that closed in August 2023, but with the inclusion of Western comics and graphic novels, plus Mother Tongue Language titles.

Check out NLB’s new pop-up Comics Library at Anchorpoint.

This time, the Comics Library is here to stay for a much longer period. In fact, there’s no specified end date for the Grab-n-Go self-service library except that it will last around a year starting from 22 September 2023.

You’ll immediately spot the pop-up library on the first floor near Anchorpoint mall’s main entrance, decked out in playful, vibrant colours and comics inspired by the pop art movement of the 1950s and 60s.

Thankfully, Comics Library carries the full collection from the previous Manga Library, including popular titles like Dragon Ball Z, Spy x Family, Beyblade Burst, and Fairy Tail. They’ve also added Marvel and DC comics like Guardians of the Galaxy, the classic Superman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

There’ll be Chinese, Malay, and Tamil comics and graphics novels included in the 7,500 titles of the pop-up library and a new, separate children’s section with titles in four languages.

There are even comfy bean bags for you to sink into at the increased seating space of the Comics Library. The collection of Comics Library is also set to increase to 11,000 titles by early 2024, so you can look forward to sinking more of your time into your favourite comics.

Unfortunately, there’s no Mr Kiasu the robot librarian to provide you with title recommendations and help in checking out, but be rest assured that the checking out process is still as easy as ever.

Just keep your books in your hands, step on the footprints by the exit, scan your NLB eCard or library-compliant ID card to confirm the loan and you’re ready to go!

If you prefer not to lug home a heavy bag of books, you can get digital copies of all the books through scanning the QR codes on the new Wallpaper Library and the two e-Read screens stationed around the pop-up library.
