Demon Slayer season two to be released in late 2021

Yes, it’s happening. Demon Slayer season two will be released this 2021 and we’re stoked.

Sure, blockbuster Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train may have managed to fill the voids in our hearts, even if it’s just for a little bit after Season one’s finale. But a mere runtime of 120 minutes just isn’t going to cut it for die-hard Demon Slayer Fans.

The new, short trailer of Demon Slayer season two previews the Entertainment District Arc, and it looks like a departure from season one, where most of the scenes took place out in the wild. This time, the anime seems entirely set in the city, and we’re expecting electrifying fight scenes of demons being pummeled through buildings.

Glimpses of our favourite characters Tanjiro, Zenitsu and of course, Inosuke are seen in the trailer, where they seemingly explore Yoshiwara Entertainment District, “a night district where the charms and desire of men and women swirl within a tempest of love and hate”. However, Nezuko is nowhere to be found—at this point, it’s really up to our imaginations on whether this is a foreshadow or simply just a budget animation cut.

Demon Slayer’s backstory

For those who’ve not picked up the series, Demon Slayer was first serialized on Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump in February 2016, but it was its debut on Netflix in 2019 that received critical acclaim and numerous awards. As of February 2021, the manga has over 150 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

The first season of Demon Slayer follows the story of Tanjiro who trains to become a demon slayer after his sister, Nezuko turns into a demon. Tanjiro sets on the quest of finding a cure for Nezuko while battling other demons along the way.

The movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was shortly released in October 2020, and it picks up where season one left off. Titled as the highest-grossing anime film of all time, it even surpassed Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.

The premiere date of Demon Slayer season two is still unknown, but it is expected to be released sometime in the latter half of the year.
