If you’re looking to explore more of what Johor has to offer, aside from the usual food, massage, or karaoke haunts, take the drive up to Putuo Village 普陀村. Aside from being a cultural village and tourist destination, Putuo Village is also home to Fat Bamboo Cafe, one of the most tranquil cafes in Malaysia.
From hanging nests to a rainbow walk, Putuo Village (and the surrounding bamboo forest) plays host to many IG-worthy spots. Tucked away amidst lush greenery is Fat Bamboo Cafe, a safe haven for plant lovers and weary travellers alike.
White walls, bamboo furniture, and an abundance of natural light make this scenic space the perfect place to rest and recharge after a long day of sightseeing. And of course, there are also plenty of photo ops within the cafe itself.
Although the cafe has expanded its selection of cakes, pastries, and beverages ever since its opening in 2020, the menu is still a relatively modest one.
You can unwind over thirst-quenchers like the Matcha Latte, Caramel Coffee Latte, or cold brew Lychee Green Tea, some of which are also served in bamboo cups.
Don’t forget to order the popular Matcha Mousse Cake or Blueberry Cheesecake, and take a moment to just bask in the beauty of nature. Do away with the distractions and just relax.
Although not served in the cafe, the real stars of the show here are the soft serve ice cream in eco-friendly “cups” fashioned out of bamboo. Look out for vendors at the entrance of Putuo Village — they start selling these swoon-worthy desserts from 11am, while stocks last. Choose between the Signature Bamboo Charcoal Choc or Classic Japan Matcha, which go for RM10 each. I’ll take two of the latter, thank you very much.
I definitely need some time away from the hustle and bustle of city life — perhaps a weekend getaway to Putuo Village and some matcha soft serve will do the trick.
