My 2.5 GPA back in poly might not be able to buy chicken rice anymore, but that’s okay, I can still get a full on kway chap set with only S$2.50 at this hawker centre in Kallang

Tucked away in Jalan Batu Hawker Centre, Feng Ji Kway Chap is a hidden gem that serves up generous servings of kway chap sets at an unbeatable S$2.50. Don’t worry, the stall will be easy to find — just look for the one with snaking queues.

My initial impression upon learning that the kway chap was priced at only S$2.50 was that the servings must be meagre (or that the price must only be for the bowl of kway). But no, it’s literally a whole kway chap set complete with all the braised goodies that we love – the flavourful kway in herbal soup, braised pork, braised intestines, taupok and egg — all that jazz.

For the kway chap connoisseurs, you probably know that in this day and age, a simple one person set of kway chap would cost you at least S$4, and that’s not promising great quality or portions.

Not only are the kway chap sets here really economical, they’re also highly touted as one of the best kway chap spots in the area, even selling out before noon (so get there earlier if you don’t want to miss out!).

If you’re feeling like a ‘’baller’’ that day, you can also order other yummy braised items ala carte to add onto your meal like:

  • taupok (S$0.50)
  • braised beancurd (S$0.50)
  • fishcake (S$0.50)
  • braised egg (S$0.50)
  • braised pig skin (S$0.60)
  • braised peanuts (S$1)
  • tau kee (S$1)
  • small intestines (S$1)
  • braised pork belly (S$1)
  • large intestines (S$1.50)
  • pig stomach (S$1.50)

Honestly, if you think about it, this is probably one place where you can order the entire menu and have a table full of food for you and your friends —  and for the price to still be under S$20.
