Chill out over hearty sandwiches, good coffee & fresh bakes at Folk Yard in Potong Pasir

by Christabel Tan

We’re in the thick of the sando and sandwich craze, and it definitely isn’t stopping anytime soon.

If you’re still on a mission to try every sandwich there is, pop by Potong Pasir for Folk Yard, a cosy cafe serving hearty sandwiches, good coffee, and fresh bakes.

Born out of a passion for hearty sandwiches and quality coffee, the cafe is run by a team taking their first foray into Singapore’s vibrant F&B scene. By serving as a space for like-minded folk (hence the name?) who share the same enthusiasm for good food and coffee, it also hopes to bring a sense of warmth and livelihood to the neighbourhood.

The menu focuses on the bare necessities, with a fairly modest menu of sandwiches, sides, and beverages.

Start your day on a hale and hearty note with the Breakfast Sandwich (S$14), cheesy scrambled eggs, maple hashbrowns, and candied bacon on shokupan, or the no-frills Patty Melt (S$16), comprising of caramelised onion, gruyere, and a wagyu patty on sourdough bread.

I do love a good fried chicken sandwich, and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich (S$15) which features coconut slaw and curry aioli on shokupan, is definitely calling my name. Be sure to keep a lookout for the unique Cold Cut Sandwich (S$16), consisting of Black Forest ham, parma ham, arugula, and cranberry jam on sourdough — it’s kinda like a salad, but on bread.

All sandwiches can be paired with a side of French Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Onion Rings, or Fried Brussels.

Be it shokupan or sourdough, all breads, cakes, and pastries served here are baked in-house. You can expect the likes of Double Choc Cookies, Lemon & Thyme Cake, and Currant Scones with Strawberry Jam & Clotted Cream — perfect for breakfast and/or a teatime treat.

And of course, all the essentials are covered, given the selection of coffees, teas, kombucha, and even kefir (from S$4.50) to choose from.

This is your sign to take a day off for some much-needed self-care and a sandwich or two. After all, this chill hangout space is bound to become a hit with the crowds from Potong Pasir and beyond.
