Where are my anime fans at? The popular Gashapon Bandai has finally opened their first store in Singapore. Located at Nex, the specialty store will feature over 300 faces and over 200 collections of figurines. Truly a gashapon heaven for all gashapon lovers.
This Singapore store is the brand’s second outlet in Southeast Asia — the first outlet was opened earlier this year in Malaysia. In case you’re not sure what Gashapon is, it is the popular vending machine-dispensed capsule toy from Japan. They’re kinda like the OG of blind boxes, in that you never really know which character from the collection you’ll be getting until you crack open the plastic case. But hey, isn’t that part of the fun?
The store is impressively stocked with over 300 machines, which had the inner child in me tingling with excitement. You’ll need to use the special tokens, which you can get from the machine conveniently located at the entrance of the store. Once done, you’re all set to run wild. We won’t be surprised if you change more tokens than you planned to –- we certainly did because it was just so thrilling and addictive!
The collections range from 2 tokens to 5 tokens, and there is even a selection of premium gashapon up for grabs here. There’s over 200 collections in the store so we reckon you’ll be spending a lot of time (and money) here — I definitely had a hard time deciding between which collection to get. Don’t worry, with that many collections in store, you’ll certainly find one that you like.
To help you find your way around the store, the collections are organised according to categories like Anime, Collectible, Game, Living things, among others. Some of the popular collections that you can expect to find here include Pokemon, Crayon Shin-Chan, Spy x Family, and One Piece. If you’re into the creepy crawlies, there’s also several collections of life-like insects and reptiles. There’s even a collection of sushi collectibles, which I was very impressed by how real they looked.
For those who are into the cutesy collections, you might be interested in the Miffy, Sanrio, and Kirby collections. K-pop fans will also be happy to find figurines of their favourite bands like BTS’ TinyTAN and NCT127. You can even drop off your empty capsules at the ‘capsule input port’ in the store.
If you’re planning to head down to the store, here’s a pro tip: take your time to browse through the collections before you make your purchase. Otherwise, let your inner kid geek out in this store! Grab your friends and head down to the store to relive some childhood fun and do some exciting unboxing.
