Combining great music, excellent vibes, and some of the best food in town, GastroBeats 2023 is back to take over Marina Bay, bigger and better than before. Spread over four weekends in June, you can look forward to a ton of feasting, fun activities, and plenty of photos for the gram! Time to grab your foodie pals and head down to this massive food and fun-filled fair.
This year, the festival will take place from 1 to 25 June 2023 and will feature over 40 food vendors selling local favourites as well as a selection of fusion and international cuisine. There are also several retail stores for you to treat yourself to some (light) shopping, as well as exciting carnival games and giant inflatable structures for the kids to go splashing around in.
The food section is split into several themed streets like Taiwan Food Street and Thailand Food Street, curated with some of Singaporeans’ favourite street snacks. I hope your tummies are prepared for a gastronomical adventure.
Bringing their massive grilled seafood offerings to the festival is 2 Ninja 1 Fatty. If you’re heading down to their booth, you should definitely give their Grilled River Prawns a go. We paired the grilled prawns with a Garlic Butter sauce for a savoury and mildly spicy kick — garlic lovers will absolutely love this (I know I did)!
Feel like having a croissant? Popular artisan bakery La Levain will also be gracing the festival with their unique croissants and signature bakes. You definitely have to grab some of their Croissant Pasta, which come in three flavours: Carbonara, Kimchi, and Chicken Bolognese — these are exclusive to GastroBeats so make sure to get them while you can.
Moving on to international fare, Papi’s Taco will be serving some hearty Mexican fare with a slight local twist. My favourite was the Beef Rendang Taco which was very juicy and flavourful. The squeeze of lime also really helps to tie the dish together. If Fish Tacos are your fancy, you can look forward to getting your fix here. I was really intrigued by the “mystery” sauce which was creamy with a hint of spice.
You’e gonna want to grab a drink while you explore the whole festival and I recommend getting the Honey Peach Lemonade from Sofnade’s Lemonade Stand. It was very refreshing and was the best drink to pair with the hot weather and helped to wash down the greasy food. Those who wanna take their lemonades up a notch can go for the alcoholic lemonade slushie which will certainly keep you feeling very cool and calm.
If you need a little caffeine to keep the food coma at bay, you should definitely join the queue at JJ Royal. They serve some of the best and most aromatic coffees that will certainly keep you awake. Don’t forget to also pick up a bag of their coffee beans to brew your morning cuppa at home.
The best part? You can take your love of food to the next level by entering GastroBeats 2023’s first-ever eating competition and claim your title as GastroBeats Chomp Champ. You’ll need to have speed, skills, and a serious appetite if you wanna beat Singapore’s #1 competitive eater, Zermatt Neo — this is certainly not for the faint hearted. Think you have what it takes? Make this a family affair by bringing your kids along with you! You can drop them off over at the Jumptopia by Kiztopia Friends for some out-of-this-world fun at the gigantic space-themed inflatables. There’s even a section of the play area for adults to let their inner child run wild at the Jumptopia Wild — we certainly had a blast here.
Tickets to the play zones can be purchased here.
Admission to GastroBeats is free, so are you ready to embark on a fun and exciting gastronomical adventure this June?
