A coffeehouse, cocktail bar, art gallery, and coworking space, Grids Coffee & Bar is a unique dining concept in Chinatown with a Japanese-inspired menu and a minimalist interior.

In fact, this cafe is one of the few in Singapore that encourages you to stay for a while.

From 9am to 4pm, the cafe is a relaxing coffeehouse serving up sandos (from S$14), which you can get in salmon, katsu, striploin, and more, as well as Japanese staples such as salmon or duck Ochazuke (from S$17), which is a rice dish steeped in tea. If you love mentaiko fries (S$12), Grids has them too, along with other tasty sides like Parmesan Truffle Fries (S$12) and Fried Cauliflower (S$10).

Their coffee is a must-try, featuring the Colombia Planadas – roasted coffee beans with excellent all-round structure with orange-like acidity, notes of chocolate and caramel-like sweetness. You can even take home their speciality coffee beans, which are available for purchase.

As you’re enjoying your time at Grids, don’t forget to admire the art pieces in the restaurant, which functions as a small art gallery – and you can purchase the artworks as well if they strike your fancy. The coffeehouse also has an event space, where you can hold your next party or social gathering.

Featuring artistic concepts such as a robot doing everyday tasks, panoramic landscapes painted in unconventional ways, and more, you’ll get a different experience at Grids year-round. Occasionally, the coffeehouse hosts pop-up markets selling handcrafted products.

After 5pm, Grids becomes a cocktail and tapas bar with cocktails, craft beers, and bar bites, as it transforms from a relaxing coffeehouse into a hip nightlife spot. Try their signature cocktail shrimp (S$14), which has a citrusy note to it, and a mix of amaebi and Kawa & Sakura Shrimp, topped off with mentaiko sauce. The bar has a wide selection of craft beers and cocktails as well, depending on your preferences.

And if you’re looking for a place to work, Grids offers coworking spaces as well; for just S$30, you can work at the coffeehouse the entire day, and be entitled to food and drink. The spacious cafe also has fast wifi and power plugs, so you’ll never run out of juice.

The next time you’re in the area, look out for this hip cafe that brings more unique experiences to Chinatown, whether you’re here to dine, work or simply relax!
