You can finally have the best of both worlds at Gum Gang Won, a fusion Korean restaurant in Chinatown that has gone under the radar — until now.
The restaurant may be tucked away along the Temple Street stretch of Chinese eateries, bars, and late-night dessert shops, but you definitely won’t miss it.
Here is where you can find one of the most enticing lunch deals around — drop by on weekdays (excluding public holidays) from 11am–3pm to enjoy Lunch Specials for just S$9.90!
There are nine mains to choose from, all of which come with free side dishes (banchan), and the option of adding on S$1 for barley tea or canned drinks.
Go for the popular Jja Jang Myeon, Squid w/ Pork Belly Rice, or the ever-so-reliable Bibimbap, which comes in four variations: Chicken, Pork, Vegan, and Beef (+ S$1).
Other options include Kimchi Myeon, fiery Volcano Ramen, and the classic Kimchi Fried Rice.
Of course, you can also find the standard fare offered at most Korean restaurants, ranging from Korean BBQ sets to Korean-Chinese dishes like tangsuyuk and eggplant with potato and chilli.
However, Gum Gang Won is perhaps best known for being the first fusion Korean restaurant to offer vegan Korean BBQ (as well as an extensive selection of vegan, vegetarian-friendly, and allium-free options) in Singapore.
They serve plant-based bulgogi, sausages, and even pork belly, alongside vegan jjajangmyeon, kimbap, and the signature Vegan Budae Jjigae (from S$39.80), which is chock full of plant-based luncheon meat and sausages, vegetables, mushrooms, and tofu.
Working around the area and not sure where to go for lunch? I think the answer is very clear.
