HotBox SG is a Muslim-owned Western supper spot serving samyang fire noodle prata with “eat at your own risk” spice level

Some of my friends call me crazy, but I absolutely adore Samyang fire noodles (buldak-bokkeum-myeon). It’s spicy, it pairs well with almost any topping, and it’s just plain delicious — no wonder I crave it all the time!

Combine the well-loved instant noodles with everyone’s favourite supper food, prata, and you have a creation unique to HotBox SG in Teban Gardens.

The Muslim-owned hawker stall (and former home-based business) tucked away in the MakanShiok coffeeshop opens till 2am, making it extremely popular with supper-goers looking for a satisfying late-night meal.

Although you can find a very extensive selection of Western and Asian fusion fare, HotBox SG is perhaps best known for its one-of-a-kind Prata Samyang — a dish that epitomises the phrase “true blue comfort food”.

The concept behind the Plain Prata Samyang (S$4.50) is pretty much self-explanatory, featuring spicy fire noodles encased within soft prata — indulgent with a fiery kick!

You can also choose to add on Nacho Cheese (S$1) for a little bit of respite and bulk it up with Chicken (S$5.50) or Beef (S$6.50).

The best part? There are three spice levels to choose from: Spicy, Extra Spicy, and I Dare You!, which comes with an additional charge of S$1 and an “eat at your own risk” warning. Gulp.

If you have spice-loving friends who are always up for a challenge, bringing them here for Prata Samyang is a must.

Can’t take the heat? You can choose from other equally comforting and wallet-friendly mains like the Lamb Chop ($15), Lemak Chilli Api Crispy Chic Burger (S$8.50), and Crisped Fish w Creamy Pasta (S$6.70) — all hearty and gratifying in their own way.

Those dining in large groups can also order a sharing platter, such as the Mixed Grill Platter (S$28), which comprises fries, cheesy sausages, and three different types of grilled meat.
