KAEDEN is a cosy Scandinavian cafe serving chicken & waffles, mentaiko prawns & more in Lavender

by Christabel Tan

There is no shortage of cafes and restaurants near Lavender MRT, but being spoilt for choice is a good thing. Be it a weekday lunch with your colleagues or a chill dinner with your significant other, the newest entrant to Aperia Mall has it all. Enter KAEDEN, a cosy Scandinavian cafe serving restaurant-quality fare in a casual setting.

The theme of “links” is present in both the cafe’s philosophy and interior design. KAEDEN stands for “chain” in Danish; it strives to serve as an intimate dining space for friends and family to link up and enjoy good food and great vibes together.

Scandinavian influences and the owners’ passion for cycling come together in a space dominated by white hues and wooden furnishings. The design is minimal, save for the neon light fixture at the entrance, giving plenty of room to the main attraction — the food.

Punchy and comforting flavours take centre stage throughout the menu, which is divided into several categories. Appetisers include Grilled Mentaiko Prawns (S$5/pc), Dirty Truffle Fries (S$13), and Crispy Karaage (S$14) with crispy garlic and chilli oil.

At brunch, which starts at 11am, diners can feast on classics such as Shakshuka (S$22), Chorizo Hash (S$20), and my personal favourite, Chicken & Waffles (S$19). I mean, c’mon, who can resist spicy fried chicken and honey butter? Yum.

Dinner service kicks off at 5.30pm, with mains that are a little more refined without being unpretentious. Think Duck Leg Confit (S$23), Miso Glazed Salmon (S$26), and Cauliflower Steak (S$20).

Desserts are only available at dinnertime, and sweet endings are always possible at KAEDEN. Indulge in the Valrhona Molten Chocolate Lava Cake (S$13), Sticky Date Pudding (S$13), or Caramelised White Chocolate Blondie (S$14) that’s served with oolong ice cream.

You can also find the typical beverages like coffee, assorted kombucha, craft beers, and wines. From now till 12 June 2022, the cafe is also currently rolling out a free cup of coffee for every main course purchased (for the first 100 customers each day).

I could definitely use some spicy karaage right now. Looks like I’ll need to make a pit stop at Kaeden in a bit.
