Do you like it large?

It seems that the latest food trend is to upsize everything — literally. We’ve tried the viral XXXL croissant, and now, there’s even an XXL Kouign-amann by Keong Saik Bakery

In case you’re wondering, a kouign-amann is a flaky pastry that is sweet and crispy on the outside, yet soft and butter on the inside. This French pastry is probably one of the most popular pastries around the world, after the croissant of course.

A typical Kouign-amann fits in the palm of your hands. But, if the OG version is not filling enough for you, maybe this XXL version at Keong Saik Bakery should be able to feed you (for a few meals at least).

This gigantic pastry was launched this September and it weighs around 1.1kg — that’s the weight of a bag of flour. With all things upsized, it’s no surprise that the price is also upsized. The XXL version of the Kouign-amann costs S$98

But if you feel like having a croissant, there’s also an XXL croissant (S$98) here to satisfy your croissant cravings for pretty much the whole year. Don’t look down on this bad boy because it also weighs around 1kg

But, for what it’s worth, you do get a pair of pretty well baked pastries.

Much like the regular kouign-amann served here, the XXL version had a crispy sweet and flaky crust. But I was really impressed with the soft and buttery centre. The XXL version takes much longer to bake so I was impressed that it was still soft and buttery on the inside. It was really like the OG version of the Kouign-amann (and I can see why it’s one of their most popular bakes too.)

The croissant on the other hand had a nice flaky crust with a buttery centre. However, I preferred the regular-sized croissant as it was less doughy.

The XXL pastries pairs best with a hot cup of Black Kopi (S$3.80), the Kopi Susu (S$5) or even the Kopi Milo (S$5.50) to help balance out the sweetness of the pastry.

If you’re looking to wow your friends at your next party, this XXL Kouign-amann and croissant will certainly send jaws dropping — literally. The XXL pastries are made to order and are only available at the Luzerne outlet. You can drop them an email or contact them via Instagram to place your order. All orders for the XXL pastries have to be made at least four days in advance.

Do you have what it takes to gobble down this XXL pastry?
