Last Bite Western: Big smashed burgers & loaded chicken tenders

Share

When I first heard about Last Bite Western, I wondered what gave it its name. But after trying the food at this Muslim-friendly hawker stall, I think I have a theory. What stood out to me immediately were the generous portions, indulgent pieces of meat, and flavour-rich sauces.

Perhaps the stall’s name is so appropriate because a meal here leaves you so satisfied and full that you won’t need another bite anywhere else.

Currently, Last Bite Western has 2 outlets. Its newest is located at 633 Tampines North Drive, but we chose to visit its original location at 5 Dover Crescent. Tucked in the corner of a humble coffee shop in an HDB estate, you might just miss it while walking by. But the bright yellow signboards and friendly staff will catch your attention.

Together with a colleague, we ordered what are widely considered the stall’s signature items: OG Buttermilk Tenders (S$10.90), Dirty OG Loaded Tenders (S$7.90), Western BBQ Double Smash Burger with Turkey Bacon (S$14.90), and Mega XL Cutlet Burger (S$12.90).

At Last Bite Western, you have to talk about (and try) the OG Buttermilk Tenders (S$10.90). Inspired by chicken tenders that one of the stall’s owners had during his time in prison, these tenders were tasty.

They were chunky, had a nice crunch, and were seasoned nicely. With every order of tenders at Last Bite Western, customers can choose 1 of 4 sauces: Secret Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Honey Chipotle, and Sour Cream. Every serving also comes with honey, a slice of garlic bread and fries.

We had ours with the savoury Secret Sauce, which elevated the overall flavours. The tenders also paired surprisingly well with honey, and reminded us of the sweet-and-salty combination you will usually find in chicken and waffles.

The Western BBQ Double Smash Burger with Turkey Bacon (S$14.90) was another highlight for me, though this burger can get quite messy. Use utensils if it bothers you!

Every layer of this burger was full of flavour. The buns were glazed to perfection with a nice buttery top, while the smashed beef patties were cooked to the right temperature and tenderness and drenched in a special sauce.

The juicy burger is complemented with layers of melted cheese and 2 big slices of turkey bacon, creating an indulgent package that somehow isn’t overwhelming. Fries are also served on the side.

Nothing shows the average portion size at Last Bite Western like the Mega XL Cutlet Burger (S$12.90). As the name suggests, it is essentially an entire chicken cutlet sandwiched between 2 buns, tomatoes, and lettuce.

If you’re craving fried chicken with crispy, well-seasoned skin, and tender, juicy meat, look no further.

Ever find yourself in the vicinity of either of Last Bite Western’s stalls? Give the menu a shot! You will leave with value for your money and a well-fed stomach.
