This popular midnight food bazaar in Johor Bahru has over 150 stalls with lok lok, “rainbow” drinks, giant meatballs & more

I’m sure by now that going into JB over the weekend and visiting a food bazaar has almost become second nature to us all.

If you’ve yet to make any weekend plans yet, we have just the thing to keep you very occupied this weekend. How does exploring yet another bazaar sound?

The popular Local Foodie Fest is back again for yet another fantastic run. Taking place from now till 28 July 2024, Local Foodie Fest is a food bazaar located at Lotus’s Tebrau. This time, the festival will feature over 70 vendors with 150 varieties of food including including the likes of viral street eats, trendy apparel, and so much more!

What better way to bond with your friends or family than eating and shopping together?

Food-wise, you can look forward to getting your hands on some trendy foods like the rainbow sticky milk drinks, giant meatballs, Korean samyang fire noodles, banana “popiah” rolls and more. Pro tip: you’re gonna want to come here with an empty stomach because there’s just so much to try!

Some must-haves here include the crowd-favourite lok lok, Korean-style corn dogs slathered in nacho cheese, takoyaki and so much more. You’ll also be able to find freshly shucked oysters here too — which pasar malam offers this?

There’s also a variety of local fare like nasi goreng, satay, nasi kuning (fragrant turmeric rice) with prawn or meat options, amongst many others. Other festival must-haves include DIY Rojak cup, assorted sushi, deep fried soft shell crabs, mango sticky rice and more!

Drinks-wise, you can wash down all your food with the quintessential  Thai milk tea, teh tarik, and coffee.

The viral “rainbow” drinks drizzled with sweet, sticky syrup in milk that comes in different flavours will also be there — I’d probably go for this drink simply because it looks so vibrant and inviting.

There are other smaller bites like freshly made-to-order churros with different dipping sauces, colorful rainbow jelly, tanghulu and baby pancakes as well.

When else would you get to try these delicious sweet treats for just a third of its usual price?

Burn off the calories by browsing through the retail corner that has affordable yet stylish clothes like baju kurungs and baju melayus so you can rock that couple fit.

Best part is that this bazaar is open till midnight so you can take your time to visit every stall without rushing to and fro.

Just remember, it will only be taking place till this Sunday, 28 Jul, so if I were you, I would start calling up my friends and head down to JB right now!
