If you’re the kind that must cool down with a refreshing dessert (or two) after a hearty meal, the under-the-radar Ms Aiyu in Ang Mo Kio will be right up your alley.
Tucked away in 409 Ang Mo Kio Market and Food Centre, the humble dessert stall specialises in affordable old-school Taiwanese desserts like homemade beancurd, aiyu jelly, and bubble teas.
You can DIY your own dessert by choosing a base (from S$1.50), followed by toppings from the selection in the glass display, which include the likes of chewy Sweet Potato Ball, Lychee Pop (popping boba), Aiyu Jelly (in fun flavours like Wintermelon, Passionfruit, and Lemon), Coffee Jelly, and Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls).
Alternatively, go for one of the existing combos, like the “Signature” 3 Aiyu Combo (S$3.50), which boasts three different flavours of aiyu jelly; Taiwan-Style Beancurd (S$3.50); or the Pop Ball Aiyu Combo (S$3) — ideal for those who can never get enough of popping boba.
The beverage menu features an extensive selection of Aiyu Honey Drinks (S$2.50), Soya Milk Drinks (from S$1.50), Milk Tea (from S$1.50), and even Wintermelon Tea (which is widely enjoyed in Taiwan).
Most drinks are also generously topped with jelly, pearls, pudding, and of course, aiyu jelly — they are practically desserts themselves.
Ms Aiyu is home to some of the most thirst-quenching and wallet-friendly desserts in the area, so why not head on down if you’re craving a taste of Taiwan? Ice-cold aiyu jelly does sound good, especially after an indulgent braised pork rice meal.
