New & Upcoming Video Games we can’t wait to play

Upcoming Games 2026

2026 is a stacked year in entertainment. From major sports events like the FIFA World Cup to highly anticipated movie releases like Avengers: Doomsday, most of us have something to be hyped about.

And that also includes those of us who are gamers. Because, arguably, 2026 is the most exciting year for video games in a long time. We’re not even halfway through the year, and we’ve already gotten masterpieces like Resident Evil Requiem, Crimson Desert, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Forza Horizon 6, and more.

But what else is on our radar? With Sony’s State of Play event revealing new gameplay just earlier today, and the Summer Games Fest happening this weekend, these are some of the titles we are looking out for.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Genre: Action-adventure, open world
Release date: 19 November 2026
Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Let’s first state the obvious. Most gamers are looking forward to the next entry to the massively popular Grand Theft Auto series — Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). And chances are, if you clicked into this article, you’re probably wondering the same thing as me. “What’s up with GTA 6?”

With less than six months away from its release date on 19 November 2026, we still have incredibly limited knowledge about gaming’s biggest event of the decade. The last time we got any updates about GTA 6 was a year ago, in May 2025, when the second trailer for the game was released.

And since then – silence. No teasers. No images. No updates. It was recently revealed that ‘marketing’ for GTA 6 will begin in the summer, which means more info about the game should be dropped soon. Here’s hoping that this weekend’s Summer Games Fest is part of those plans.

007 First Light

Genre: Action-adventure, spy thriller
Release date: 27 May 2026
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 (Q3 2026)

The talk of the town this past week has been 007 First Light. This action-packed, cinematic adventure was released on 27 May 2026 to very positive reviews. It has been a long time since we had a video game centred on James Bond, and it seems to be a hit amongst fans.

007 First Light puts the player into the shoes of an inexperienced Bond as he embarks on his first few missions. The new origin story, beautiful visuals, and intuitive gameplay are all compelling reasons to give this game a shot.

But add the fact that the game is being developed by IO Interactive, which is known for its success with the Hitman series, and this game is an instant addition to the wishlist.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Genre: Action-adventure, open world
Release date: 10 July 2026
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Ah, remakes. When overdone and overused, they can rob creators of creativity. But once in a while, remakes are necessary and even sensible. When handled with care, great remakes can reintroduce beloved works to a new audience while also being a gift to fans of the original.

For the most part, this feels to be the case for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. A remake of the 2013 hit Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, this assassin game packaged as a pirate adventure seems primed to recreate the magic.

Not only have the visuals been rebuilt to modern standards, but so have gameplay elements. Many ‘pain points’ from the original game have been updated or removed to improve the experience. New content has also been added to expand on certain characters, so even veterans of Black Flag will find this adventure quite different.

Oh, and did I mention that this game was primarily developed by Ubisoft Singapore? Proud Singaporean moment! If you’re up for a swashbuckling time in the Caribbean seas and lands, check this game out.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Genre: Action-adventure, superhero
Release date: 15 September 2026
Platform: PlayStation 5

PS5 gamers, you’re in for a treat this September. One of the most iconic X-Men, Wolverine himself, will be back in his own video game. And with the latest extended gameplay shown at State of Play, we are convinced that this will be a comic-accurate take on the character’s powers and personality.

The action is visceral, the camera movements are cinematic, and most of all, the game looks fun. And knowing that this was developed by Insomniac Games is the cherry on top. The American game developer was responsible for the Marvel’s Spider-Man series of games, which were widely praised for their story, character design, and most of all, fluid gameplay.

Insomniac nailed the portrayal and ‘feel’ of Spidey’s movements, and seems to have done it again for Wolverine. Be prepared for combat that is violent, bloody, and brutal, while also being interactive, responsive, and satisfying. If you’re a fan of the X-Men, you would also be happy to see surprise appearances by certain characters in Marvel’s Wolverine.

Control Resonant

Genre: Action role-playing game, horror
Release date: 24 September 2026
Platform: Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

The sequel to 2019’s Control was first announced during the latest Game Awards in December 2025. During State of Play earlier today, a brand new trailer was unveiled, along with a confirmed release date for the game. So far, Control Resonant looks to carry the same tone that the first game had, while vastly expanding its world with new locations and mechanics.

One thing that sticks out to us right off the bat is the beautiful visuals that developer Remedy Entertainment always delivers in their games. If they simply improve on what they had from their previous titles, Resonant will definitely be a visual treat.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Genre: Action-adventure, puzzle-solving
Release date: 12 February 2027
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2

Tomb Raider is one of the most well-known video game franchises with an iconic heroine. Over the past two decades, it has even spawned a few movie adaptations and an upcoming live-action television series.

This year, the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary with a remake of the very first game, now confirmed to be releasing on 12 February 2027. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a modern retelling of the original Tomb Raider story, with stunning visual effects, redesigned environments, and a new take on protagonist Lara Croft.

Fans and newcomers alike can expect a game built on the latest game design techniques, but imbued with the spirit of the original 1996 classic. This is a celebration and love letter to Tomb Raider, a fitting revitalisation and homage to the 30-year-old series.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

Genre: Action role-playing game, science fiction
Release date: Q2 2027
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Fans of science fiction, unite! A sci-fi game based on the world of The Expanse is going to be released in 2027, and it honestly looks cool. For the uninitiated, The Expanse is a series of science fiction books, which was later adapted into a television series.

This game is based on events from the books, while also featuring some actors from the TV series reprising their roles. Described as a ‘story-driven action RPG’, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will allow you to create your own protagonist and travel to iconic locations in the series.

Recently, there was a beta test and demo for the game, which showcased its dynamic third-person combat, jaw-dropping visuals and sound effects. If you’ve always wanted a new role-playing game (RPG) similar to the likes of Mass Effect, but with a more realistic take, this is it. Get ready for memorable set pieces, character interactions, and zero-gravity shootouts in 2027.

Metro 2039

Genre: First-person shooter, post-apocalyptic, horror
Release date: 2027 (TBA)
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Here is another game based on novels. Metro 2039 is the fourth instalment in the Metro video game series, which is based on the books of the same name. The games are known for their dark, gritty, intense, yet beautiful atmosphere.

2019’s Metro Exodus is commonly known as one of the most immersive games out there. So when the latest sequel, Metro 2039, was announced in April 2026, the internet was buzzing with excitement. And based on the first look video that the developers released, the hype was well-warranted.

Metro 2039 invites players back into the familiar yet haunting world of the series, to discover new secrets and fight against past horrors. If this is your type of game, keep an eye out for a release date, which is currently estimated to be around the end of 2026 or early 2027.

God of War Laufey

Genre: Action-adventure, fantasy
Release date: 2027 (TBA)
Platform: PlayStation 5

God of War is back! Or should we say, Goddess of War? Just announced at State of Play, a new game in the God of War series is in development, and it looks incredible. Instead of focusing on Kratos like all its previous entries, players will step into the shoes of his wife Faye (played by Deborah Ann Woll) in this one.

Though fans might be divided on whether a God of War game without Kratos is truly God of War, you can’t deny the gameplay and graphics here are amazing. Also, instead of being the same old game with a new skin, this is a spinoff with fresh combat mechanics

Instead of an axe, players will fight enemies using a legendary sword and magic this time. Faye’s movements are also more acrobatic and agile, which will be fun to learn throughout the game.

At the time of writing, no release date has been confirmed for God of War Laufey yet. However, looking at how far the gameplay has come along, we expect a 2027 release, exclusively on the PS5.

To-be-announced (TBA)

The Elder Scrolls VI

Upcoming Games 2026
Photo: @bethesda/YouTube

Genre: Action role-playing game, open world, fantasy
Release date: TBA
Platform: TBA

At this point, this game and its studio, Bethesda Game Studios, have become a little bit of a meme. The Elder Scrolls VI is the sequel to 2011’s groundbreaking The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If you thought the 13-year wait between GTA 5 and GTA 6 is long enough, try talking to a Skyrim fan.

When Skyrim released, it set the standard for what an open-world fantasy RPG should be. It went on to be a huge success critically and financially, and was re-released multiple times across generations of platforms.

Even to this day, the 15-year-old game still holds up. No wonder it is considered one of the greatest games ever made. But just as with every successful project with massive fandoms, there will always be a demand for more.

Bethesda Game Studios finally responded in 2018 to questions about a sequel by releasing a teaser that officially announced the development of The Elder Scrolls VI. But since that initial announcement eight years ago, no significant information about the game has been released. Let’s hope they have been secretly cooking up something for us.

An Open World Middle-Earth RPG

Upcoming Games 2026

Genre: Open world, role-playing game, fantasy
Release date: TBA
Platform: TBA

Warhorse Studios, developers behind the acclaimed Kingdom Come: Deliverance games, recently announced that they are working on a new untitled RPG set in the Lord of the Rings universe

Obviously, this seems to be an announcement for a project in its early stages of development, and we probably will not see any updates or reveals for the next few years. Still, a sentence with the words ‘open world’, ‘Middle-Earth’, and ‘RPG’ is enough to send us geeks into a frenzy.

With Warhorse Studios’ track record with the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, they seem like some of the best people to develop this new Middle-Earth game. All they need to do is bring that same level of immersion, attention to detail, and world-building they have become associated with, and it will blow expectations out of the water.

What games are you looking forward to?
