Given the current inflation rate (and looming 9% GST), it’s no wonder that Singaporeans, especially those that work in the CBD, are in constant search of affordable lunch deals. Sigh.
On a more positive note, Shukuu Izakaya has launched an anti-inflation dine-in menu featuring S$5 donburi, available every Tuesday to Friday from 11.30am–2pm for a limited time only!
Diners will get to choose from a rotating menu of two different donburi on any given day at the very affordable price of just S$5++ each.
Expect hearty creations like the Tori Soboro Don (U.P. S$14), a Japanese marinated minced chicken rice bowl with edamame and onsen egg, and Unagi Tama (U.P. S$16), which pairs Kabayaki eel with a homemade dashi egg, are available on Tuesdays.
Personally, I’d make a beeline for the Gyu Don (U.P. S$14) and Negitoro (U.P. S$16), both staples on the regular izakaya menu.
You can also look forward to the classic Salmon Don (U.P. S$16) with salmon sashimi and spicy cubes, as well as the Buta Katsu Kuro Curry (U.P. S$16) made with a black-hued curry.
As you can see, the selection of donburi at Shukuu Izakaya is typically priced upwards of S$14, so this is a really, really good deal.
Side dishes are priced at just S$2.50 each, so feel free to fill up on Miso Soup with Asari (clams), Ramen Egg, Potato Salad, and Nasu Goma (eggplant with sesame sauce).
Do note, however, that each diner is only limited to one order of S$5++ donburi, while stocks last.
Aa far as we know, British restaurant The English House also offers a special “Inflation Menu” with S$9.99 mains, so it’s great to see even more establishments jumping on the bandwagon and showing some love for the community!
The inflation rates may be going up, but so will your mood after a wallet-friendly donburi at Shukuu Izakaya.
