From a unique 7-Eleven dine-in concept store to the exciting Changi Festive Village 2022, there are plenty of ongoings at Jewel Changi Airport this festive season.
If you’re looking to impress your friends and family (especially those visiting from abroad) with a sweet treat or two, you can now head to Sourbombe Bakery, home to Singapore’s first artisanal sourdough bomboloni.
Following the success of its first physical outlet in Dhoby Ghaut, the speciality bakery, run by Masterchef Singapore runner-up Genevieve Lee, has finally expanded to the east (side, best side).
That means frequent flyers and visitors to the airport can hang out at the bar counter (that resembles Jewel’s rain vortex) and easily get their hands on Sourbombe’s innovative Italian-style stuffed sourdough bomboloni practically anytime!
Available for both dine-in and takeaway are the signature Sourbombe, Viennoiseries, outlet-exclusive Soft Serves, and a new line-up of Savoury Bombe, alongside a selection of unique beverages.
You can choose from an array of classic flavours like the sweet, smoky, and savoury Basque Burnt Cheesecake (S$5.60), Blueberry & Lemon Thyme (S$4.80), and the Jewel-exclusive Crème Brûlée (S$4.80).
We immediately zeroed in on the aromatic Kahlúa Coffee Pistachio (S$5.60), which was an excellent option. Think a duo filling of boozy mousse and coffee Kahlúa custard, topped with crunchy caramelised pistachio — it’s perfect for fans of alcohol-spiked desserts like tiramisu.
Don’t have much of a sweet tooth? Sourbombe Bakery Jewel has introduced a line-up of savoury bombe, including the likes of the Tahini Short Ribs (S$8), pastrami-style short ribs served with tahini yogurt and pistachio gremolata crisps.
Aside from boasting a unique texture that is equal parts fluffy and chewy, each sourbombe is also generously stuffed with a well-balanced cream or custard of some sort. There’s a reason why the bakery always sells out so quickly!
For those craving a sweet icy treat, there are only two soft serve flavours, for now, one of which is the Lavender Lime (S$8.50), a silky and creamy lavender and citrus lime-infused soft serve topped with crushed pistachios and a nutty, very concentrated pistachio rose drizzle.
The sweetness level is also nicely balanced out by tart freeze-dried raspberries, so you won’t need to worry about it getting too cloying.
You can also choose to have your ice cream served atop a Quarter Crispy Brown Butter Waffle (+S$4) or the OG Sourdough Bomboloni (+S$3).
Alternatively, go for the sweet and savoury viennoiseries, such as the mildly spicy Sunny Crab Danish (S$9), Truffle Croissant (S$9), and the circular croissant-inspired Pistachio Rose Timber Ring (S$6).
At this time of year, I’d go for the hearty deep-dish Meadesmoore Beef Danish (S$10), tender chunks of Meadesmoore speciality beef stewed in a red wine gravy and potato mash atop a golden brown pastry.
Pair your bomboloni and pastries with coffee and non-coffee specials, tea, matcha, hojicha, or chai. The Blueberry Lemon Cream Soda (S$9), for instance, comprises a creamy blend of Berry Soda Pop, lemon, and a decadent vanilla sweet cream filling.
