Already had your fill of our local museums and art galleries? You might wanna consider visiting the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) for a change, especially if exciting and educational experiences are your thing.

When it comes to sustainability, we know it might not be the flashiest topic in your feed, but there’s honestly more to it than the three Rs.

In fact, why not learn how you can treat our planet with a little more kindness at the Sustainability Fest 2024 from 9 to 17 March 2024 — just in time for the March school holidays?

This week-long celebration taking place at the Singapore Discovery Centre will feature an exciting line-up of family-friendly activities, green workshops, carnival games, interactive eco tours, and so much more.

The tours, for instance, will be conducted by expert guides, so you’ll get to learn about renewable energy, growing your own greens, and unique farming methods in Singapore.

Whether you have a green thumb or not, the Living Green Eco Tour taking place every Sunday will give you the opportunity to see, touch, and smell a variety of herbs in the Urban Garden, followed by a breathtaking view of floating solar panels.

You’ll even get to enjoy aromatic lemongrass butterfly pea tea and plant your own microgreens — in case you’ve always wanted to be a plant mom. The best part? It’ll be completely free from 17 March to 30 June, as long as you book your slots here

Alternatively, the volunteer-led One Planet, One Home Eco Tour on 9 and 16 March will give you a deeper insight on how we can e more sustainable through the initiatives at SDC.

But if you’re the sort who prefers to explore independently, you can embark on the self-guided Sustainability Trail with Singapaw that’ll be available from 9 to 31 March, and learn fun facts about SDC’s eco-sustainability initiatives, with prizes to be redeemed upon completion.

Head on down on the weekends if you want to get in on all the action, starting with the Sustainability Fest Carnival on 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17 March from 11am–7pm. Try your hand at carnival games (made using sustainable materials, of course) and stand a chance to win prizes — nothing “sus” about this!

Keep an eye out for interactive booths like Plastify!, where you’ll get to make your own recycled plastic product in just under a minute.

If you’re up for an adrenaline rush, join the Eco-Blaster Challenge from 12pm–4pm on 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17 March, and aim for thrills as you blast away at eco-friendly targets (kinda like a nerf war).

Those bringing the kiddos along can catch free movie screenings of Kung Fu Panda 4 on 15, 16, and 17 March on a first-come, first-serve redemption basis.

Special sustainability exhibits will also be added to the showcase at SDC, such as the Pledge Wall till 31 March where visitors can take a stand for the planet and pen their promises down.

Afterwards, head over to the Aura Wall (from 9 March) and take a “personality test” where you’ll get to analyse your sustainability choices, uncover your strengths and weaknesses, and get an aura colour based on your sustainability persona. Don’t forget to snap a picture with your eco-aura and share it on Instagram to win a special prize!

All these activities happen to coincide with Solar Appreciation Day, making it an opportune time to celebrate SDC’s progress and achievements in sustainability.

Climate change is real, and it has never been more important to educate oneself about sustainability and adopting eco-conscious habits so as to contribute to a greener (and brighter) future.

This is your time to shine and do your part for the planet, so why not try something new over the weekend and visit the Sustainability Fest 2024 at the Singapore Discovery Centre?

PS. you should totally check out the Total Defence 40 exhibition while you’re at it.
