Popular Japanese specialty roastery cafe opens first international outlet in Singapore serving original blend coffee, souffle pancakes, curry rice & more

by Marcus Leong

Fans of Belle-ville pancakes will be thrilled to know that the outlet at 100AM has gone through some major revamps and is now branded under their sister brand Takagi Coffee. Located at 100AM in Tanjong Pagar, the store will be the brand’s first international outlet. CBD office workers, get ready for some rich and strong coffee to kick start your day!

Takagi Coffee serves their house brand coffee beans that are roasted purposefully dark, rich, and strong. But don’t just take our word for it, you can head down to the store and watch the beans get roasted before your eyes — yes, the cafe roasts their gourmet coffees everyday in store.

For the original blend, the cafe uses a blend of beans sourced from Indonesia, Columbia, and Brazil to give you the perfect perk me up drink with nutty, chocolatey, and light-citrusy after-taste. Apart from their signature blend coffees, Takagi also offers single-origin hand-dripped coffees from Nacaragua, Bali, and Rwanda.

Interestingly, the cafe — which is now the go-to specialty coffee joint in Japan — didn’t start off selling coffee. Instead their cafe journey started out focusing on food. Today, the cafe serves a mix of savoury and sweet food options like the katsu sando (S$14.80), and Strawberry & Mix Berry Pancake (from S$12.90) — both of which pair perfectly with their coffees.

If you can only stomach just one dessert, we recommend getting the Matcha French Toast (S$15.80). Don’t be fooled by its underwhelming appearance as it packs a ton of flavour. The wheat flour brioche is grilled to a fluffy crisp slapped with a mochi skin and dusted with matcha powder and icing sugar.

We also recommend adding on fresh cream for S$1 because it really takes the dish to the next level by adding a touch of sweetness and creaminess.

Other food offerings on their menu include a selection of collaboration curry rice (from S$12.80) from award-winning Maji Curry from Tokyo, as well as the crowd-favourite fluffy souffle pancakes (from S$6.40) from belle-ville Pancake Cafe

Takagi Coffee is also having an opening special — from 1 to 10 April 2023, the first 50 dine-in customers will receive a free 50g bag of single origin coffee beans freshly roasted in-house. Make sure to mark the dates in your calendar if you want to snag some of these aromatic beans!

Pleasantly surprised by how well the mochi skin goes with french toast and love how this wasn’t overwhelming sweet!???? #tastesoulsg #takagicoffee #100am #tanjongpagar #trasstreet #mochi #mochifrenchtoast #sgmochi #sgdessert #sgcafe #sgcoffee #matchadessert #sgjapanesefood #sgfoodie #sgfoodtok
