The Fat Kid Bakery opens on Amoy Street with sweet and savoury sourdough donuts like roasted garlic mascarpone, torched mentaiko & more

Fancy a pick-me-up in the form of a sourdough bomboloni (Italian-style donut) or two? There are plenty of these fluffy, delightfully airy filled bombos to go around at The Fat Kid Bakery in Telok Ayer.

The former home-based business turned brick-and-mortar store was previously located in a much more ulu Ang Mo Kio location, before opening along Amoy Street.

No dine-in options are available here, so you’ll personally need to make a trip down before the entire array of bakes gets wiped out. And trust me, the folks in the CBD are hungry.

As someone who generally prefers all things savoury over sweet, I was most eager to check out the bakery’s unique selection of savoury bombos.

There are four fascinating flavours to choose from: Spicy Egg Mayo, Sour Cream & Onion, Torched Mentaiko Cream, and my favourite of the lot, Roasted Garlic Mascarpone.

The latter packs a punch, both in terms of flavour and aroma, so anyone who enjoys garlic bread and/or considers themselves a garlic lover will lap it right up.

Each savoury bombo is priced at S$6.50, with most customers opting for a box of four (S$26). I mean, you can’t just leave with a single donut, can you?

But of course, if you are still sweet-toothed at heart, the crowd favourite Vanilla Creme Brulee (S$4.50), Sea Salt Maple (S$5.50), and Blueberry Cheesecake (S$5.30) bombos will not let you down.

I did have higher hopes for the sour, yet oddly artificial-tasting Citrus Bomb (S$5.30) though!

Regardless of whether you like your donuts sweet, sour, umami, or spicy, there’s something for everyone at The Fat Kid Bakery! As long as you visit before they sell out for the daily, of course.
