I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! We all love a nice and huge scoop of ice cream, especially on a scorching hot day — which is pretty much everyday in Singapore.
There’s a scoop shop that has just opened in Orchard Central and it hails all the way from Brooklyn, New York. Does the name “Van Leeuwen” ring any bells?
If there’s anything America is known for, it’s for their super delicious and yummy ice creams! The cult-favourite ice cream brand has over 50 scoop stores all over America and they’ve just opened their first overseas outpost here in sunny Singapore, and in Orchard no less.
They’re best known for serving delicious scoops of rich and creamy French ice cream, made with double the amount of egg yolks and real natural ingredients to give you only the best stuff with every bite. Prices range from S$6.50 for a single scoop to S$14 for three mountainous scoops — trust me, it’s worth every cent. If you’re ever in Orchard, you have to stop by and grab a scoop or two.
The Chocolate Fudge Brownie is super rich and decadent without being cloyingly sweet, and is loaded with chunks of chocolate fudge. This might just be my new favourite go-to spot for chocolate ice cream. Vegan folks will be happy to know that there’s a vegan-friendly option for this flavour too, made with a coconut base.
The cheesecake is an interesting flavour for me — in a good way of course. It has the richness from the cream cheese with a light cinnamon aftertaste. It’s a very different take on your regular cheesecake-flavoured ice creams.
The most popular flavour is the Peanut Butter Brownie Chip. If you’re a fan of crunchy peanut butter, you’ll definitely enjoy this. It has crunchy bits of crushed peanuts, paired with chocolate chips. Looks like I’ll be ordering a double scoop when I come back. This flavour also comes in a vegan-friendly option.
I really enjoyed the Earl Grey ice cream which was lightly sweet, creamy, and smooth with a nice floral aftertaste. The Mint Chip (yes, I am on team mint ice cream) has a nice refreshing cool mint aftertaste with bits of dark chocolate chips to give it a nice bittersweet aftertaste.
Other unique flavours worth trying out include the Black Cherry Chip, Buttermilk Berry Cornbread, and Honeycomb. But really, any flavour you pick is bound to be super tasty for sure!
You can also pair your ice creams with toppings like hot fudge, waffles, whipped cream and even vegan whipped cream — all for just S$1 each. Looks like I’ll be spending at least S$14 here on my next visit!
