Many might already remember Walking on Sunshine as “that salon-cafe that’s adorned with greenery so lush, you won’t be able to miss it”. Now, they have a new adjacent concept, You Are My Sunshine, which is also a salon-cafe split into two units, and is located on the fifth floor of Ngee Ann City Shopping Centre.

Whether it’s a fresh cut you’re looking for, switching up your hair colour, and even an up do for a special occasion, there’s a service to cater to your need, no matter how specific.
I’m here today to get my fringe dyed just like e-girl trends suggest. Though I expect to sit in the chair for a good few hours as my muscles atrophy, everything is done in just a swifts two hours. I came with my fringe already bleached, so colouring (from S$180) and treatment was all that had to be done.
I’m well taken care of throughout the whole process, constantly handed off from stylist to stylist, but never missing a beat. After about half an hour of letting the dye seep in, I’m whisked away to the washing area for a relaxing spa treatment that has me dozing off more than just once.
Also, in keeping with the notion of organic living, natural herbs and ingredients are used in their treatments such as the Botanical Repair Treatment (from S$300), making it a great selection if you’re one to nitpick what goes on or into your body.
Cafe offerings
Before or after your self-pampering session at the salon, there’s also the option of fuelling up on hearty fare to boot, and you have this unique two-in-one concept to thank for that. The cafe offerings also range from “just a small bite” all the way to “starving”, which drinks, starters, mains, and even booze on the menu.
To start, perhaps the Classic Bulgogi Salad (S$27) is a good plate to whet your appetite, along with an iced Dalgona Coffee (S$8) to get into the Squid Game state of mind.
Mains such as the Salmon Truffle Angel Hair Pasta (S$30) is the perfect choice for those who want a meal that’s filling without being too cloying. Otherwise, there’s always all-day brunch options like the Smoked Salmon Benedict (S$23) and All American Breakfast (S$25) if that’s up your alley.
