During these hard times of dining restrictions and WFH crowds putting a dent in many hawkers’ livelihoods, we’ve seen many kind souls publicise hawkers that need our support during this time. The latest stall that has been getting a lot of traction on the popular Hawkers United 2020 facebook group is Ah Gong Minced Pork Noodle, operated solo by an elderly lady.

Located at the popular CBD lunch hotspot of Maxwell Food Centre, Ah Gong Minced Pork Noodle sells their signature Bak Chor Mee for a crazy low price of just S$2.50, a rare find in the normally pricey CBD area.

What makes this stall so special is their dedication to old-school beliefs of handmaking ingredients — their meatballs are made from scratch daily by the owner, and their fried shallots are also fresh from the wok. Plus, there’s also no MSG so the richness of flavour is all-natural.

And as we all know, things served in clay pots generally come with higher intensity of flavours but also higher prices, but that’s not the case at Ah Gong Minced Pork Noodle where the Claypot Bak Chor Mee is still just S$2.50.

Plus you get a rich hearty soup that is infused with the gratifying umami of tee poh, a type of traditional fried flounder that is used by many of the best Bak Chor Mee stalls in Singapore for flavour, including the Michelin-Starred Hill Stree Tai Hwa.

Or if you’re not in the mood for Bak Chor Mee, you can also indulge in the decadent medley of crackling fried pork skin, golden-brown fried pork lard, and handmade dumplings in their Signature Claypot Noodles for just a bit more at S$4.50 — still great value compared to most food in the area.

With the dwindling lunch crowds in the area, it’s a tumultuous uptake to stay afloat for many hawkers. And for places like Ah Gong Minced Pork Noodle who still insist on providing the best handmade love to their customers, they really deserve our support.
