With physical conventions coming back at full speed now, there’s plenty to look forward to, and joining the lineup after a two-year hiatus is Anime Festival Asia 2022 (AFA) – set to take place from 25 to 27 November this year, spanning four halls at the Suntec Convention Centre.
Like previous editions of the annual festival, you can expect merch from popular animes like Haikyuu, Attack on Titan, and Jujutsu Kaisen, with badges, keychains, figurines, blind bags, and more! Plenty of new series have popped up as well such as Heaven’s Official Blessing and SPY X Family, so you can expect tons more merch to choose from. While the festival is anime-centric, you can also find merch from manhwa series that have made their way to the big screen, and games such as Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact.
There’ll also likely be interactive activities, such as themed pop-up areas, AFA Play, a section recently introduced with popular game machines for visitors to try out, and chances to win freebies.
New to AFA this year is the Cosplay Hub, where local cosplayers will be selling their merch and prints, in addition to the Creators Hub which promises to be bigger and better with AFA’s collaboration with Pixiv, Japan’s largest online art community, which will have booths from indie creators from Singapore and international artists selling their merch from popular games and animes, such as prints and plushies.
Hungry after walking around? The festival also has a Japanese food street in the convention halls, which will be selling authentic Japanese food, with the full list of participating vendors available soon.
Tickets for the festival are priced at S$21 per day for the three-day festival, and will be released in November. More information on exhibitors that will be at AFA 2022 will be available in early November, with the Creators Hub vendor list available in mid-November as well, so keep an eye out on their socials for that!
One of the highlights of AFA is, of course, the stage area, where you can meet famous cosplayers like HAKKEN, known for cosplaying characters from various games and animes like Genshin Impact and Jujutsu Kaisen – Xiaoyukiko, a Singaporean cosplayer and streamer who has been invited to many international conventions, alongside other iconic cosplayers.
At night, AFA also hosts the AFA Night Live! show over two evenings, featuring Hololive and V-tuber performers such as Watame Night Fever, Tsunomaki Watame’s 3D live concert, virtual boy band Strawberry Prince, along with a star-studded lineup of Japanese artistes.
Each AFA Night Live ticket entitles you to exhibition and stage access, as well as the night concert, with a printed autograph poster from Tsunomaki Watame and a chance to get a random autograph from one of the performing artistes for VIP ticket holders. Tickets for AFA Night Live! are available now and selling fast, so get yours before they sell out!
