You can dine and paint at the same time at this aesthetic art jamming studio that has all-day brunch, unique mains, and S$10 beers

We’re no stranger to the concept of art jamming, but how about a café and an art studio rolled into one? Conveniently located about a seven-minute walk from Outram MRT, Asusual Café is just that — a unique space that allows you to eat and paint at the same time.

The quaint two-storey café opened in March 2023, and has an aesthetic and cosy interior that’ll instantly put you at ease.

While you’ll find typical menu offerings like Ultimate Big Breakfast (S$24) and Truffle Carbonara (S$20), they also serve up hearty brunch items like Thick French Toast with Strawberry Compote (S$18), Fried Chicken with Kimchi Mayo Burger (S$23), and so much more.

We had the Very Prawny Pasta (S$25), which indeed lived up to its name — the al dente pasta soaked up all the creamy (and prawny) sauce, and came generously topped with garlic chips and fresh prawns that were charred to perfection.

For those looking to try out more exotic pizzas, be sure to check out their Greek Style Pizza (S$23) that’s topped with tender grilled chicken chunks. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the creaminess of the Greek yoghurt sauce complemented the acidity of the tomato base!

Asusual Café also serves up rice bowls from just S$18 with toppings like beef, Iberico pork, and even Thai-style skewers. While you’re generally recommended to have your mains before or after painting so you can enjoy your food while it’s hot, it’s entirely up to you to decide. Alternatively, you can also get sides like Good Ol’School Cheese Fries (S$12) and Tangy Fried Chicken Wings (S$15) to share while you’re creating your masterpiece.

Feeling ready to unleash your inner Picasso? Head on up to their art jamming studio, where you’ll have three hours (S$35) to paint whatever your heart desires (psst… if you bring a friend, it’s S$65 for two pax instead). Everything is provided, so all you need to do is show up.

The entire space is such a vibe, from the fairy lights to its minimalistic interior — perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s an unguided session, but you can always ask the friendly owners if you need any help. Plus, to really get those creative juices flowing, you can also enjoy three pints of Guinness for just S$30++. What a steal!
