If there’s one hawker stall this year that deserves the title of most hyped opening, it has to be Chef Kin HK Wanton Noodle — the Yishun stall opened by former Crystal Jade head chef just a few months ago.
If you’re familiar with this stall, it’s probably the most sought after hawker food in Yishun with queues up to 2 hours when they just opened. Now you can find them near your hoods in Ang Mo Kio and Bedok too!
With over 20 years as Head Chef at Crystal Jade and more than 4 decades of working in Cantonese kitchens, you can expect the most authentic and sincere spins on the humble noodles from Chef Kin
Getting a bowl of HK-Style Wanton Noodles will set you back S$5 — not that much different from your typical neighbourhood stall, just that Chef Kin HK Wanton Noodle packs a lot more prestige.
You generally find this style of wanton mee at restaurants for around S$10 a pop, and wants to share his favourite style of the dish at a much more affordable price to the public.
For those unfamiliar with this traditional HK-style of wanton mee, you’d find your bowl submerged in a crisp and hearty pool of umami soup. So don’t expect your typical wanton mee tossed in dark sauce and paired with charsiew at Chef Kin.
This is a really comforting and homely dish with noodles specially imported from Hong Kong and an 8-hours-simmered broth. Not to mention those wantons that just explode in the mouth in a perfect skin to filling ratio.
Dry noodle fans can still get their noods drenched in aromatic soy sauce and oyster sauce here — more like our local version but also not exactly.
Some dry options include the Braised Beef Brisket Noodles (S$5.50) and you can add some Fried Wantons (S$4) and Fried Dumplings (S$4) for a more familiar local flair.
