Malaysia is home to some of the best coffee brands around, so it’s no wonder many of us cross the border for our old-school kopitiam fix — the kopi and kaya toast just hit different.
That’s why you drop everything when big names like Choon Kee Hainanese Coffee come to Singapore, even if it’s just for a week.
Hailing from Taiping, Perak, the cult-favourite heritage coffee brand has earned a steady reputation for creating unique beverages. However, with just one flagship outlet in Taiping and pop-ups usually limited to bazaars in Kuala Lumpur, it’s been incredibly hard to get a taste. Until now, that is.
Good news, because now’s your chance to get your caffeine fix without having to plan a visit to Taiping.
Choon Kee will be serving up a selection of coffee and teas crafted from a 70-year-old recipe at Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe in 111 Somerset for just one week, from 23 August to 2 September 2024.
We hear the Barley Series, comprising signatures like the Barley Kopi Teh (S$6.80), Barley Kopi Kaw (S$5.80), and Barley Teh Superb (S$5.80) is a must-try.
There’s also the KTM (S$6.80), a seriously gao combination of kopi, teh, and Milo that’ll probably be enough to power you through the entire work day.
If you’re a fan of anything sweet and salty, go for the special “mojito”, or Haikou Breeze (S$6.80), a refreshing non-alcoholic concoction of lemon, sea salt, and yakult that’s said to taste exactly like the popular Himalaya Salt Candy.
Pair the drinks with Great Nanyang’s Traditional Kaya & Butter Toast, and you’re all set for the ultimate kopitiam experience!
Once again, Choon Kee will only be in Singapore for a week, so don’t miss out.
