With ferry services between Singapore and Desaru finally starting, there’s no better time to take a trip there. If you’re looking for something fun to do while you’re in Desaru, check out Desaru Ostrich Farm, where you’ll be able to get up close to the biggest and fastest birds in the world.

The farm is home to over 200 ostriches of all ages, making it the biggest ostrich farm in Asia. Some of the ostriches roam freely around the farm, so you’re free to get up close to pet their soft feathers and snap a few pictures. Entry to the farm costs S$6.32 (RM20) for adults and S$4.74 (RM15) for children, and you can stay as long as you like.

For the price of S$0.63 (RM2), you can also purchase vegetables or corn kernels to feed the ostriches — which makes for the perfect opportunity to interact with the large birds.

And don’t worry about not knowing how to approach the creatures, because you’ll be assigned an ostrich caretaker who’ll guide you around the farm and provide you with tons of interesting facts about the birds. They’ll even let you stand on top of an ostrich egg to show you how strong the egg is.

If you have kids who weigh under 30kg in your party, they can also take a short ride on the back of an ostrich for S$6.32 (RM20). How cool is that? We’ve all heard of pony rides, but how many people can say they’ve ridden on an ostrich before?

Besides letting you pet, feed, and ride on the ostriches, the farm also has an ostrich hatchery where they collect and incubate the eggs, and if you’re lucky, you might get the chance to witness a baby ostrich hatching.

Finally, end your visit to the farm by checking out their restaurant, where you can try out ostrich dishes such as Ostrich Teppanyaki, Ostrich Egg Omelette, and even Ostrich Bak Kut Teh
