The last time I went to Genting Highlands, I was only in primary school. Even though there weren’t many attractions back then, I still had an amazing time basking in the chilly air, stuffing my face with Marrybrown and exploring the old Genting Outdoor theme park. Fast forward to more than a decade later, I find myself getting excited by the fact that Genting has a brand new and exciting destination. Welcome to Genting SkyWorlds— a new theme park filled with a myriad of thrilling rides and invigorating attractions.
Nine themed worlds and 26 rides and attractions to be exact. So buckle up, here’s all you need to know before deciding whether you want to make the trip up to the mountains.
Andromeda Base: Alpha Fighter Pilots, Boot Camp Training & Terraform Tower Challenge
If you’ve been to Universal Studios’ Singapore, you’ll find that Andromeda Base is reminiscent of the Battlestar Galactica area with its sci-fi theme and space mission vibes.
Here, you’ll find three attractions and rides— Alpha Fighter Pilots, a exhilarating ride that turns you 360-degrees, Boot Camp Training, a challenging obstacle course that puts your brawns to the test and Terraform Tower Challenge, a gripping ride with dramatic drops.
The rides and attractions in this ‘world’ are pretty daunting, so if you’re an adrenaline junkie looking for a challenge, you’ll probably find yourself spending the most time here.
Central Park: Night At The Museum: Midnight Mayhem, ESD Global Defender & Independence Day: Defiance
Central Park is the largest in size among the nine worlds, so make sure you set aside more time so that you can fully enjoy all the rides and attractions.
There are three attractions and rides at this Big Apple themed world—- Night At The Museum: Midnight Mayhem where you can feel like the main character in a 3D interactive ride, ESD Global Defender, a heart-stopping spinning ride with lots of twists and turns as well as Independence Day: Defiance, a flying theatre that takes you on an immersive galactic adventure through the skies.
If rides aren’t really your cup of tea, there are also two outdoor zones (Central Park Gardens and Madison Square) here for photo-taking, chilling, strolling and taking in the sights.
Epic: Epic Voyage to Moonhaven & Epic Hummingbird Flyers
Epic is a world inspired by the 2013 animated film, well, you guessed it— Epic.
The rides here are much more mellow with Epic Voyage to Moonhaven, a whimsical indoor boat ride and Epic Hummingbird Flyers, a spinning ride that makes you feel like a little forest fairy amidst the giant birds and flowers. I reckon this world will be pretty popular for families with young children as well.
Ice Age: Sid’s Rock ‘N’ Slide & Mammoth Fun Zone
Another world that would be a hit with the youngins and young at heart, Ice Age is modelled after the movie franchise of the same name and has a couple of family-friendly rides and attractions like Sid’s Rock ‘N’ Slide and Mammoth Fun Zone, an activity-based playground with splash zones.
Rio: Blue Sky Carousel, Samba Gliders & Rio Carnaval Chaos!
Travel from New York City to Rio de Janeiro. This world draws inspiration from the idyllic seaside city in Brazil as well as the animated movie Rio.
Here, you’ll find three classic carnival favourites dressed in stylistic Rio charm —- Blue Sky Carousel, a double-decker carousel ride, Samba Gliders, a hang glider that gives you a bird’s eye view of the world and Rio Carnaval Chaos! a flamboyant spinning teacup ride with Rio characters. Sounds like the place for a real family fiesta.
Robots Rivet Town: Bigweld’s Zeppelins & Rivet Town Roller
Robots Rivet Town is a world that’s somewhat like a wonderland for mini sci-fi fanatics.
It’s also particularly nostalgic for adults that have watched the 2005 animated film, Robots, in their childhood like myself.
Soak in the bittersweet feels and view of the world on Bigweld’s Zeppelins, a relaxing ride to feel the wind running through your hair. If you’re up for something more exciting, there’s also the Rivet Town Roller, a fast-paced unicoaster ride.
Eagle Mountain
Eagle Mountain is a world where you can enjoy the Californian deserts without the heat. The ride here is still under construction but it’s still worth a visit if you’re down to grab a bite at one of the food trucks here and get a bit of retail therapy in at the souvenir shop.
Studio Plaza
When you’ve had enough fun in the sun for the day, you can head over to Studio Plaza and admire the golden cinema-style interiors as well as snap a few pictures.
There are also several food stores like Legends Cafe and Han’s Cha Chaan Teng as well as gift shops for you to rest your feet and do some window shopping before heading back out for your adventures.
Liberty Lane
Not to be missed on your tour around the world in Genting Skyworlds, Liberty Lane is a world inspired by the chic alleyways of San Francisco.
Here, you’ll find several food stops like Golden Gate Garage serving delicious grub like mega long hotdogs as well as gift shops selling Planets Of The Ape merchandise. Their highly-anticipated Planets Of The Ape attraction is still under construction, so fingers crossed it’s worth the wait!
Genting Skyworlds mobile app
I don’t know about you, but I feel a little spoilt for choice because of the sheer number of rides and attractions to visit. If you’re not sure where to go or you simply like to plan out your day, you can download the Genting Skyworlds mobile app prior to visiting the theme park to hash out a suitable itinerary for your trip.
The app is pretty comprehensive, so most of what you need can be done or found on it—including ticketing functions.
There are features like Virtual Queues (VQ) where you can book your preferred time slots for each ride to skip the dreary wait (who wants to wait 40 minutes for five minutes of fun?) and live waiting times so that you can plan out which ride to go for next.
The theme park is the size of 19 football fields (crazy), so you’ll be thankful for the detailed map view function on the app as well. The mobile app will be the holy grail to making your experience easier and smoother at Genting Skyworlds. Do remember to bring a portable charger too!
