Want to eat well without breaking the bank? Well, you may have not realised it, but there are actually plenty of restaurants offering value-for-money set meals hidden in plain sight.

One such example is Ginza Anzu, a farm-to-table concept eatery from Kyushu in Great World.

Pop by the authentic Japanese tonkatsu restaurant on a weekday at around 11am and you’ll spot a (short) queue of hungry folk waiting to get their hands on the highly coveted Service Lunch.

Only 20 sets of Service Lunch are available every day from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and they’re usually sold out before 12pm (hence the queue) — the early bird does indeed catch the worm here!

Each lucky diner will be greeted with an exquisitely plated bento-style box filled with the day’s specialities (a little like omakase).

You won’t be able to pick and choose, but you can look forward to a good variety of dishes like chicken kaarage, assorted vegetable tempura (including the likes of broccoli, enoki mushroom, and lotus root), somen, grilled fish, pickled vegetables, and tamagoyaki, so you’ll get to try a little bit of everything!

One thing is for sure — you will get quite a selection of deep-fried items, so it’s something to keep in mind, especially if you tend to avoid the stuff.

And of course, no Ginza Anzu Service Lunch would be complete without rice, miso soup, salad, chawanmushi and complimentary free-flow hot or iced green tea.

It’s an incredibly satisfying yet value-for-money meal that lets you enjoy the best of all worlds!

The next time you find yourself in the Great World area on a weekday with a craving for tonkatsu, and it happens to be 11am (or earlier), there’s no reason to not try your luck at securing a Service Lunch!
