One thing many of us have sorely missed during COVID-19 was going to our favourite night markets in Thailand and Taiwan where we were able to hunt down great bargains, creative crafts, affordable and trendy clothes and more. And while borders might have opened and we are now able to travel back to the usual night markets – how about checking out Hin Market instead?
If you haven’t yet heard about this particular weekend market, It’s located a little closer to home over at George Town in Penang, Malaysia, and situated at the artsy Hin Bus Depot. An old bus depot where you’ll find an amalgamation of indoor & outdoor art exhibits, as well as a cafe and Hin Market!
Giving off major The Jam Factory vibes – a very similar artsy market space in Bangkok – Hin Market is quite unlike the usual markets we’re familiar with in Johor Bahru or other places in Malaysia that mostly only offer food. Instead, here’s where you can actually shop and enjoy checking out all the quirky art and crafts available for sale.
From beautiful handmade jewellery and cute clothes to art by local artists, quick art workshops and even food, you can easily spend a couple of hours here just taking in the chill vibes, shopping and maybe even getting a little crafty at one of the workshops.
Prices will be similarly affordable to what we can find in Taiwan or Thailand as well, so that makes shopping here pretty sweet too, giving us quite the bang for our Singaporean buck!
Open every Sunday from 11am to 5pm, make sure to visit Hin Market whenever you’re in Georgetown for a taste of Thailand’s famous night markets, in Malaysia.
