Have you ever been curious about what goes on behind the scenes at the Institute of Mental Health? Well, regardless of the reason, your curiosity might be satisfied as for the first time since the pandemic, IMH will be organising an open house with talks, workshops, a car boot bazaar and more!

As part of its 95th anniversary celebrations, IMH will be opening its doors to members of the public on 20 May 2023 with a guided tour of the premises. The guided tours will take you through the Outpatient Clinic, Psychotherapy Centre, the Outpatient Rehabilitation Centre and more, so you’ll be able to get an exclusive glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes. Make sure you put on your best walking shoes as you’ll be required to do quite a bit of walking on this tour.

Apart from touring the hospital, there will also be a series of interesting talks and workshops conducted by IMH clinicians and healthcare professionals to help you gain new insights into mental health practices and more.

Prefer something more practical? Get your hands messy at the Exploration With Clay workshop led by trained occupational therapists. Here, you’ll get to unleash your inner artist and create your own wacky creations while fostering physical and mental relaxation.

Not a fan of clay art? Then the Watercolour Painting workshop might be a better fit for you. The 90-minute workshop will help you connect with your inner thoughts and feelings through watercolour art therapy. You might get a little emotional here as the session will help you to take a step back, relax and explore your emotions. Admission to these workshops are free so make sure you snag yourself a spot ASAP.

Another interesting workshop to check out is the Hydroponics workshop where you’ll get to harvest fresh veggies from IMH’s own campus hydroponics garden. You’ll also get to try your hands at sowing seeds and learn about the therapeutic effects of gardening. We reckon even those without green fingers will do fine here since there’ll be pros on the ground guiding you through it. Admission for this workshop is S$6 and you can register your interest here

Beyond The Label will also be setting up a mobile exhibition with activities like pebble painting and immersive VR experiences which might just debunk the misconceptions you have about the various mental health conditions. No registration is required, so everyone of all ages is welcome to check out this super educational exhibit.

Attending therapeutic workshops is not all you’ll get to do here. There will also be a one-of-a-kind car boot bazaar where you’ll be able to snag deals on products ranging from hand-made accessories and crafts by local makers, to toys, clothes, essential oils, and more. It’s best to have some cash on hand as some booths might not accept cashless payment methods.
