Inspired by the popular vibey izakaya (casual Japanese bar), this place reimagines Taiwanese xiao chao (small dishes) in a laid-back setting.
The team behind the restaurant has culinary experience from Taipei, Taichung and Taitung. And, you can certainly tell because the menu contains classic Taiwanese flavours.
By day, Jiak Bar is your regular, non-suspecting eatery. Catered to bustling working folks, you can count on them for everyday signatures.
Crowd favourites include the Oyster and Fried Intestine Mee Sua (S$7.50) and Braised Pork Belly Rice (S$9.50).
Of course, like every new food spot lately, they offer fun twists on classic flavours.
Try the Three Cup Egg (S$3.80), a deep-fried take on the age-old century egg.
Or, whet your appetite with the Golden Kimchi (S$5.80), fermented overnight with pumpkin to give it a unique golden yellow colour.
Have you ever tried tofu infused with tea? Well, now you can with the Claypot Mala Tofu Stew (S$12.80) boasting no less than 22 different spices.
After 5pm, the space transforms into an izakaya-inspired space with small dishes, cocktails, and a selection of Taiwanese beers (hello, Cinderella).
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Taiwanese eatery without the classic bubble tea. However, it gets a boozy upgrade in the Drunken Boba (S$9.80).
The Warm Red Date Wine (S$9.80) is perfect for sweet-and-spicy cocktail lovers. For a more refreshing option, opt for the Fruity Sipper Cocktail (S$9.80) to cool down from work (admin sure needs this).
