Can’t live without your daily dose of caffeine?

It’s time to switch up your routine at luckin coffee, China’s largest coffee chain, which has finally made its first international debut in Singapore.

With more than 8,000 outlets, it’s no wonder the leading chain is nicknamed the “Starbucks of China”. Quality coffee at affordable prices, coupled with an uber-efficient ordering system? I can definitely see the appeal.

There are two outlets at the time of writing — a takeaway kiosk at Ngee Ann City, and a 15-seater dine-in space in Marina Square — but plans to open at Guoco Tower, Aperia Mall, and Jewel Changi Airport are in the works.

The outlets don’t offer much, space-wise, and can get pretty cramped. Fortunately, the tech-driven 100% cashier-less system offers a seamless experience — customers can select, purchase, and pick up their orders (for both dine-in and takeaway) through a handy mobile app, so there’s no queueing required!

“Rapid retail” concept aside, the coffee served here is the real deal. Each cup is brewed from sustainably-sourced Arabica beans of the highest quality, harvested from Colombia, Ethiopia, and Yunnan, China.

These award-winning beans are also blended by a team of World Barista Championship (WBC) champions who definitely know their stuff, so you can look forward to sipping coffee that is “freshly roasted and freshly grounded”, just for you.

If you can only order one beverage, the signature Coconut Latte (S$6.40) is an original concoction made with raw cold-pressed coconut milk that the Chinese crowds go crazy for. I mean, 300 million cups have been sold to date!

There are three sweetness levels to choose from — no syrup, less sweet, and regular sweet — but we highly recommend enjoying your Coconut Latte (and its multiple variations, which include the likes of Coconut Velvet Latte and Coconut Mocha) iced, with no syrup.

Coffee purists can go for the clean and lightly floral Hambella Americano (S$5.60), prepared using coffee beans from Ethiopia that snagged a gold medal at the International Coffee Tasting Competition 2022.

However, if you’re the kind who’s more used to a bolder, more concentrated brew (like me), the Extra Strong Americano (S$5.20) will be way more up your alley.

Another highlight is the luckin Exfreezo™, the chain’s own take on the frappuccino, which comes in flavours like Cappuccino, Chocolate, and the bestselling Matcha. Order the latter if you prefer a more subtle green tea aroma and/or have a sweet tooth.

Here’s an opening promotion you won’t be able to resist — first-timers can treat themselves to any luckin beverage for just S$0.99 when they download the app and make their first in-app order.
