When I first heard about menbosha on a Korean variety show, I was intrigued. Celebrity chef Lee Yeon Bok of Please Take Care of My Refrigerator fame was demonstrating his take on this deep-fried shrimp toast with Cantonese origins, and I thought to myself: This looks easy enough. I should definitely try making it one day.

Well, I didn’t. But now I no longer have to, thanks to MenboLah!, a relatively new takeaway concept in Lavender putting their unique spin on menbosha.

MenboLah! operates out of a tiny drive-thru kiosk in CT Hub 2, ideal for a quick grab and go.

If you’ve never had menbosha, get started with a box of nine bite-sized Menbo Bites. Go for the Original (S$11.90), Garlic Butter (S$11.90), or Mentaiko Menbosha (S$12.90). You’ll get the most value (and variety) out of the Trio Box (S$11.90), which lets you sample three different flavours. Strawberry Cream Cheese Mochi (S$9.90), anyone?

MenboLah! has also jumped on the recent sando craze with their French Toast and Garlic Toast sandwiches. And yes, all of them are deep-fried.

Treat yourself to the indulgent Original Prawn French Toast (S$9.20), Chicken Cutlet French Toast (S$7.30), or Beef Bulgogi Garlic Toast (S$8.70). Don’t wait too long though — menbosha is best consumed fresh out of the fryer.

You have the option of ordering a Set Meal (from S$9.50) for all Menbo Bites and sandwiches, inclusive of a side and a drink. Alternatively, get the best of both worlds with a Variety Box (from S$10.90), consisting of one Garlic or French Toast and three Menbo Bites.
